I hate it for some kids. I hear school is their only 1-2 decent (relative to THEIR home) meals a day.

Well at least 10x5 will now equal 50 simply by having 5 10’s or 10 5’s. To hell with the weirdo math (common core). Must have something with NASA wanting to go back to the moon. I guess the math of yester’ year is now needed!

This is purely anecdotal, but it's what I personally have observed....

we have several close friends and quite a few more "acquaintances" that are teachers, from Kindergarten to High School..................now, we all know you can group teachers into 1 of 2 groups: Those that teach because they have a passion for it, and those that teach because they went to school to get some sort of education degree and are teaching b/c they just don't know anything else to do. We've all had them, and it's pretty obvious which ones are which.

From my personal observation of people I know, there is almost a 100% correlation between which of those groups above they fall in, and whether or not they want to be back in the classroom vs "distance learning". The ones that teach because they truly have a passion for it want to get back in the classroom with their students. The ones that taught b/c they didn't really know what else to do are the ones posting on FB about how much of a martyr they are, and saying things like "I can't teach from the grave", and mailing their self-written obituaries to their mayors/governors, etc.

2. All Gun Laws Are an Infringement
3. Taxation Is Theft

I think that is a solid observation based on my experiences.

This is a democratic attempt to destroy our economy.

Jefferson County Health officer this morning on the radio said there is no reason for kids to not go back to school. He said there is almost no chance children under 10 are going to get or transmit the virus. The American Academy of Pediatrics says kids should be back in classrooms.

I hope systems like Alabaster and the OTM school districts hold strong with the traditional plan.

Our system sent out a survey a few weeks ago to get a feel for how many families would be doing the state provided virtual system vs. coming back to school. Only about 5% said they would be doing virtual.

This not opening crap is being pushed by AEA(which I'm not a member of) and few larger city systems with certain demographics in leadership.

We learned in our foster classes that 50% of the kids in Madison County do not eat at least two nutritious meals a day. You want to have your eyes opened spend some time serving kids in Madison. One of the most humbling experiences I will have in my life, is when our foster daughter showed up at our house, and she had a backpack of food that our church ministry provided.

What's crazy is it's the liberal agenda pushing for it who claim to be the party representing the poor, but it's the poor that will be most harmed by no in-person option. My kids will eat well. My wife stays home, so no problem with schedule conflicts. We have the time and ability to assure they are actually learning, etc.

My fiancé says the same things doekiller. SC seems to be pushing returning to in class instruction as soon as possible but they may delay the start. It’s starting to get down to crunch time as the teachers are slated to start back second week of August. The metrics from the e-learning part of last school year were released and something like 30% of kids logged on less than 5 times during the entire two plus months of this BS. I’m sure Bama is probably around the same percentage. There is going to be a large number of kids that get absolutely zero accomplished with online class. At least in person a teacher can attempt to make them do something. Damn shame that the powers that be are so afraid of losing a vote they won’t go against the panicy Karen and Kens out there that “don’t want their precious angels to get sick”.

I only use this example of black males because the numbers were so shocking, I couldn’t forget them. My statement is NOT particularly about race, but the long term effect on young black males, as an example group, WILL be affected.

Right now, young black at graduation age can’t perform math at a 7th grade level. Take that kid out of the classroom for 9 weeks. Forget about any home support.

What do you think this is going to do to just THIS YEAR’S crop of those kids? Think they will fare better or worse in their future?

Just that 9 week timeframe will kill ANY progress made up until that point. Their Dad’s aren’t to be found, and Mom has to work 3 minimum wage jobs, if she’s trying to be a good mom.

We will see a crop of youngsters in that category that will find it easier to make a living being a rough street kid.

And that’s just ONE section of the population. We can’t man the prisons we have.

Man, I really feel bad for them, and that’s just the blacks. The poor whites are right there with them, barely better. And like YOU, I WILL STILL protect life and property I’ve worked for.

This small 9 week period will cost some of these kids consequences for the rest of their lives.

Not making excuses for them, just making a point with one small cross-section of the population.

That’s 12 grades worth (ages) of kids for 9 weeks

Athens city did the same thing and so far they’re over 67% for returning. Madison county has turned solid blue, disgusting!!

Not talking about blacks only when i say this...but those same kids that are losing any and all their education...will still be able to vote when 18.

NO. Teachers wearing a mask would only protect the students! Or is it the other way around? Hell i dunno, it changes every 48 hours

If this last very long you can expect ACT scores to drop for sure. Most parents are not disciplined enough for this much less the kids. I thought I was disciplined until I went to college in Illinois and had a girlfriend and big deer close by......

The plans keep changing, and that is the frustration this year. Every-time a school or company makes a plan it keeps changing because of COVID and the damn gubberment making up crap as we go along. How many of ya'll have had to change routine medical appointments over the last 8 months? I guess most of you.
