I know its hard to tell see in the pic but the best way I've found to waterproof the curb is to build the curb out of treated lumber, wrap it with the shower membrane, install
the dura rock/hardibacker, waterproof then stick another layer of 1/4" dura rock on the top with thinset . Slope the top layer back to the shower with thinset and DO NOT SCREW IT DOWN then waterproof it again .

I never used wood. Always built them out of brick and ( mortar) wall mud. Seats the same way.

Just finished it up today. One other thing I like to do it waterproof the dura rock on the bathroom floor in front of the curb.

I agree with the schulter system. But find someone who is comfortable doing it. I hired a guy who had only done a few and where he mudded the drain to the floor ended up leaking after 4 years. (had a 3 year warranty).

In a fit of rage I tore it all out (7' x 8' travertine) and redid it myself. I worked for a tile company in college so I did it like we did then. Concrete backer board, redgard and took my time cutting tiles. Looks great and has been leak proof for 8 years.

Another example of what not to do at the curb and wall intersection. Watch your screws, watch your cut corners.
This was on a slab home in Shelby County. So not floor damage, but the same install defects here were repeated around the perimeter so there were leaks in corners, at half partition wall, at shower seat. Mold and leaks into other rooms due to shower leak. Red Guard on walls and PVC pan. Screws into pan that were not sealed, open corners not sealed. Tile grout is porous. Easy for water over time to enter and migrate to base of walls and cause issues. 100% avoidable mistakes.

99.9 % of the time you see metal mesh there won't be a pre slope . That will cause more problems than screws in curb. I tore out a cultured marble shower in a 11 year old slab house that didnt have a pre slope last month. I vacuumed out 28 gallons of water that was trapped between the membrane and the marble pan..... the living room was on the other side of the wall and the glue down hardwood was cuping pretty bad. Even if it doesn't leak it will sweat.

Geez Stray, you got me worried about whether mine was done right or not! I kept a pretty close eye on the work the guy was doing while building the whole pan, but honestly I had no clue what I was looking at. I was just looking to make sure it appeared to be quality work. I know the process of him building out the pan/curb/sloping/drain, etc and getting it right was a multiple day job. Seems like he put a lot of layers - backer with red waterproofing, mud/thinset/whatever, then the membrane(don't recall seeing any screws/nails going into membrane), then more mud/thinset/whatever - I could be completely off on the order of what he did, but it didn't look half assed to me. I am on a slab, guess that's a positive. Anyway to just look at it now and try and tell if something isn't right with it?

That’s metal lathe. Before backer board that was all there was for shower applications. And yes it will tear you up!
Some wrap the curb with it for extra strength.
