I agree with the schulter system. But find someone who is comfortable doing it. I hired a guy who had only done a few and where he mudded the drain to the floor ended up leaking after 4 years. (had a 3 year warranty).

In a fit of rage I tore it all out (7' x 8' travertine) and redid it myself. I worked for a tile company in college so I did it like we did then. Concrete backer board, redgard and took my time cutting tiles. Looks great and has been leak proof for 8 years.
