When I decided I wanted a dog for blood trailing I purchased this book https://www.amazon.com/Tracking-Dogs-Finding-Wounded-Deer/dp/0972508929. Very informative and tells you exactly how to train. Even if you don't plan to do serious tracking I recommend reading and doing some of these things with your pup. Its a great bonding exercise and a fun one. Plus you never know what could become of it. Never thought my beagle would do as good as she does.
