the word hero was severely stressed in a radio add I heard yesterday while driving through Florence. UA,I think it was, was asking if anyone had ever wanted to be a hero. If they had aspired to such a dream, now was the chance to become one in a testing trial for a COVID vaccine.

Do you think John McCain was a hero? I don't.

May have had good intentions a while back but I consider him a traitor...

yep that was astra zeneca from england. I guess you heard also that they had to shut down the trial due to someone getting a serious condition that can last a lifetime.

He was a piece of work. Cost the navy a gozillion dollars and was cowardly, stupid and show offish in everything he ever did for our military. If his father was not a huge admiral with a long family history of outstanding leaders - he would still be in the brig or leavenworth.

Due to flu over-reaction, every dip shucks with a job is a hero... don't matter if they are good at it or screwing around hiding in the corner under some boxes.

The deflation of heroism. If everybody is a hero, then nobody is a hero.

Yep, the term “Hero” has been watered down.

I strongly agree that the word has been watered down drastically. Another word that comes to mind is the word awesome. Much like hero it should be reserved for something or someone that is very special. Awesome basically means something worthy or capable of inspiring awe. I'm sorry but if you did a good or even a great job at work and your boss or coworkers said you did an awesome job, most likely, you really didn't. You may have done a great or even an excellent job, but it wasn't awesome. The Marine in the post above that ran into the building and saved several lives, killing an enemy along the way and helped bring several out despite his own wounds, what he did is an Awesome. He is also a Hero. God is awesome but all the more so. The shot you made on a deer last year wasn't.

Hero does apply to the young female Deputy in LA who with her jaw shot off, called for help, then tended to her partner who was shot several times including once in the head. She probably kept him from dying.

I don't agree with a lot of stuff he says, but Bill Burr had a funny bit about this on Conan once.

Correct. There are many others, but the tern is used to broadly. Same with Gentlemen, Ladies and other terms.
