I haven't had it in a while but 231 barbecue North of midland city was always my favorite Yes this was one of the good places to eat. Low prices and huge amounts of great food. They went out of business on July 26, 2020.

This was in reply to SOS BBQ in wetumpka:
Its still there, and i never really liked it. To each his own There is place up the road fron sos called Champs BBQ is mighty good. He makes BBQ stew I have never seen anywhere else. Kind of like camp stew but not exactly, but it sure is good. Another good one is Cottons coming out of Eclectic going to Alex City dont know if still open or not had killer pies to go also.
There is a place in Mobile called Saucy Q's that is owned by a black family, some of the best BBQ i have ever eaten.

Worst in Alabama is Dreamland although incredibly there a place in Maryville Tn that’s worse. Hard to pick a best but I would go with 306. I know a place in Brooksville Fl. and Chesapeake Va. that will flat out bend your curve on what you think is good BBQ is. 306 in athens has a mean rib sandwich

Worst I have ever tried to eat is a place called Big John's between Tuscaloosa and Moundville.

This is really a difficult question for several reasons:
1. Everyone's tastes are subjective. 2. People's ideas of what BBQ is can be subjective. 3. For some people the accouterments surrounding the BBQ can influence your overall experience. 4. Any restaurant can have good days and bad days. . There’s a lot of truth there. It’s very subjective and timing is important. I shared a pit with Tuffy Stone one morning in Arky. I had no idea just who he was except a BBQ guy introduced him as someone. He was about to publish his book and spoke about a lot of what he had put in it. What I found interesting was that he was a classically trained French chef. Told me about his catering business and restaurant and BBQ chain. Really neat guy and wished I’d known more as to what to ask and talk about. Later I found out who he was. From listening to some of those competition guys there’s and art and a science to it. Consistency is tough even for them. Oh yea. They cook on pellet grills at the camp.

I will admit I didn't read all 8 pages.
The answer for the best is simple: Rodney Scott. End of discussion
The worst? I don't know. The worst I have had in Alabama was Buddy's bbq in Alabaster. Just dry and nasty. I only went once. I hear people talk about it and it made some list on Al.com about best bbq in each county. But I won't go back if I am paying. I feel like it used to be good and lives on reputation and habit of customers.

I forgot all about Ken's BBQ in Pinson. It was a must stop eats at one time but I haven't eaten there in years. There was a place just over the line in Florida that had the best ribs and a spicy sauce. Apparently Flora-Bama bought their building.

Tin Top in Calera is pretty good. Don't make a special trip, but stop if you are in the area. Ribs are good. But it's all better the earlier in the day you get there.

I guess I'm the only one here who enjoyed Dreamland Ribs back when Big Daddy John was grilling them. A rib sandwich was 3 ribs on a slice of white bread, sauce on the side. No sides but you had a choice of Sprite, Coke or Sweet tea to drink. Sweet Tea usually ran out by noon. Best ribs around. When Dreamland franchised they went downhill quick. The sauce used in Mobile is watered down a bit but that's my opinion. RIP Big Daddy. The best I've had since were Boss Hog before it burned down in West Mobile in early 90's and Brick Pit on Old Shell Road.
I came, I saw, so I killed them all......Vern
