Find a creek or ditch close to a bedding area. Walk it til you find where they are crossing. Set up 20 yards down wind with a good shot and wait'em out.

We can try to figure out where they are eating and what they are eating on but they are ALL going to drink water and it's pretty easy to figure out where, most of the time. To me this is the quickest and easiest way to get on deer.

Theres alot of good advice up there, but one thing I havent seen and maybe I'm just a freak for doing it, but once you've found the deer and they're in range, you manage to get a full draw, I always aim for the lower 1/3 of the body. Had an old timer tell me to do so after I over shot my first three deer. He said that the deer hear the arrow whizzing at them not just the bow.

Another thing I've passed on to a buddy thats taking up bow hunting for the first time is "Get ready to make at least every mistake in the book". I think I did, twice.

At times my ambition far exceeds my talent.

Nah, them guys on TV prolly know less than us. Heck they have the camera man and the outfitters do all their work. They just show up, sit where they tell 'em and shoot. smile

I believe it comes down to knowing (as best you can) the deer and terrain in your area. Game cameras have been a huge time saver for me.

ps: and just about the time you think you have it figured out...........the deer will change it. confused confused

I think when one limits themselves with a bow they become more aware, alert, increase attentiveness (I'm not saying bowhunters are better than a gun hunter). Like when someone goes blind, they hear better.

Once you committ with a bow, you increase your attention to the little things.
