I acquired a nice little landpride 606NT drill through a co-worker/good friend of mine several weeks ago. I just got over having my left hip replaced so haven’t had much tractor time to play with it. I’m going to plant a few plots with it later this fall but looking forward to really using it this spring. I’ve always wanted a true no-till drill and this one fell in my lap at a price I could not pass up. With only 85.6 acres on the unit it’s still in great condition.

I am also considering doing to some planting for folks to help justify owning it. I’m not 100% decided on that but thinking it over. I need to make a few mods to my gooseneck trailer in the coming months so I can just pull it up on the trailer rather than having to lift it. If I get those mods done before spring I may get serious about doing some side work with it. If any of you guys or someone you know might have a need for something planted with this drill keep me in mind. Also I’d like some input on what custom planting with this drill would be worth per acre? I have nice equipment to work with so I should be pretty efficient at what I plant. I was thinking of a minimum charge depending on distance from home and a price per acre.

You dont need mods to the trailer other than putting a receiver hitch at the end. Pull it with the rest of the stuff.

I went and picked up a new harrow the other day and there was a brand new drill sitting next to it. My wife asked the guy I was buying the harrow from what it was. After he explained it to her she asked me why I didn't just get the drill instead and save all the work. Told her the price was significantly more than the harrow. She said I could buy the plow. slap

Ran a 7’ Great Plains for a while, I charged $50 per acre, and guys payed it with out blinking, most clubs would all chip in and gladly pay it for someone else to did the work. It’s hard to beat a the seed stand you’ll get as well. Like mentioned above I had a receiver tube I had welded in the back of my trailer “28’ 10 ton GN” I just pulled the drill behind it where I needed to go, also used it for my hay rake. That drill was 9’ 2” center to center in tire width, I always thought about putting me some flat metal about 10” wide off each side of the trailer. Make it to fit down in the standards hole on the dove tail so it could be removable, but it would be wide enough for the drill to fit on the trailer. Good luck with it, you will not regret that at all.

Squeaky I’ve never had a problem mixing my clovers in regular hopper with my triticale radishes and wheat. Gets a fine stand. May save you some headaches in long run not having to worry about small seed hopper running out before big seed hopper. Just something I’ve learned.

I have a very good friend that is going to help with the mods to my gooseneck. We are gonna do exactly as you suggested with some removable extensions. I have hunting leases spread out all over the place and it's not feasible to pull the drill to my personal properties. I think some simple mods can be made to give me the ability to haul it. I have 30' dual tandem gooseneck so I have plenty of room on the trailer.

Thanks for the advice on the trailer, pulling the drill and what you charged per acre thumbup

Matt I may consider doing that, however I plan to take the time to ensure the clover rate is calibrated on both boxes for what I am planting. Once I do that a couple times and take some good notes I'll be able to make adjustments on the fly.

257 is spot on with both his posted. The only thing I'll add is if planting small seed with cereal grain get as shallow as you can and still cover the grain. I rarely use the native grass box on my drill unless I'm planning native grass and some times ladino type clover but I usually broadcast it.

I'd like to own one, but renting for now. As far as pricing goes, I wouldn't know where to recommend. Rental fees I've seen are anywhere from $8 an acre on up. If Be_Cam is charging 50 an acre, I would start there, figure out if financially it makes sense for you and add to it if needed. I would just about pay someone 50 an acre to not have to deal with the logistics of trying to get people rounded up to help with conventional tillage.

Matt, what kind of drill do you use? I was curious if it was ok to mix clover, radish and triticale in the same hopper- looks like it is.

I run a 10’ Great Plains no till. I always mix my clover, radish, tritcale and wheat all together in one pass. It’s all about depth setup and available moisture. I’ll send some pics of my plots after I check em this afternoon.

I'll be renting a 10ft deere from the co-op in Huntland. Don't know much else about it. Was planning on picking it up tomorrow, but corn isn't up yet. May have to push it off a week. I've youtube studied a little.

It should have a sticker on the lid and/or a Manual with it, tell you t settings for seed application, it’s actually simple in reality. My 10’ Great Plains is 7 1/2” spacing and I mix all the seeds in the “big” box. Just take my hand and stir it in together. 90% of the folks that’s used em or been around don’t ever go back to planting. I plant summer plots as well with em, mix corn and cow peas together and let it bump.

Get you some stainless pipe clamps and replace those damn rings around the pipes. Much easier to work with those.
