I don't know much about scoring, but either the photo doesn't do the rack justice or there must be some serious mass to make it hit 164. It doesn't look terribly wide.

Yes, that is Jeremy Brown. That deer was taken about 1 mile or so North of the last deer that floated around on here.

The word that I got from someone who would know said that the deer grossed in the mid 160's. I also don't see it but that is a terrible picture.

Well now, based on the pic you can't see 13 scoreable points but I can sure see the mass. That one point on the deers right side looks like it just shoots right out of the main beam, stange. I would love to see some other angles and a body shot of the deer. How much did he weigh if you know. Any pics in velvet early on?

Best way to avoid an opinion on a score is never post a score to begin with.

Not sure of the weight or pics. I agree, you can't score a deer by looking at a pic.

I wasn't trying to score the picture.
It just doesn't look as big as the other buck, killed there, a couple of weeks ago.
If you posted two pictures, of a 157 and a 162, side by side, I probably couldn't tell the difference.

I admitted I don't know anything about scoring. I really don't give a chit about scoring a deer, either, or the ego that goes with it. Big whoop.

I'm not blind. I can see that it's 20 inches wide. That's why I asked about the mass, because w/ my limited knowledge about scoring it would seem to need more mass to achieve 164 with its smaller width.

It's a nice buck, whether it scores 164 or 16.4 or 1,640. Congrats to the hunter. All I did was ask a simple question. Lighten up.

I suppose i know more than anyone, ive seen the deer Thursday night @ Todd Swindalls Tax. I went to school with Jeremy @ highland home and graduate with his sister Jessica. Do you need to know more, i can take you to his house if you'd like. Plus he said there was an 8pt running with that deer that was just as big!

Well people on this site always second guess someones post, If i tell you it score 200 then take it to heart and stop asking "THAT DEER SCORE ***"?

Why? Because you're the best scorer in the entire universe?

This site, and other sites about anything, have people with opinions, questions, doubts, agreements and other ideas.

I guarantee if you took that rack to a coffee shop, put it on the counter and said "This scores 164" there would be people who say, "Really? How? That isn't too wide." or would have other doubts or might just simply be curious.

If you don't like the fact that someone (a) makes a simple comment with no judgement but is curious or (b) does happen to disagree ... then learn to deal with it.

Just because you say it scores X amount doesn't mean everyone has to take that for the gospel.

I simply asked a question to you, the resident expert on this deer, where the deer came from. I can make a phone call and find out without a problem. I just figured I would ask you since you seem to know so much about Jeremy and his deer.

Sorry Clem, you are right. Your are a professional outdoor writer so you have zero experience with deer pictures and opinion about deer and the score of deer.

Not to mention the fact that I am a well known professional hunter and I do this for a living. What the hell do I know.

All I know about Jeremy is that he lives across the street from the property that I ran for 8 years. I also know most everyone else in that community and remain friends with them all.

However CBG, you are correct, I do not know his grandfather's blood type. You have me there.

I can certainly tell a 120 from 150, when someone is blowing smoke up my skirt.
Unfortunately, though, I haven't yet seen enough 150's to get past the "Holy Schit" astonishment.
I can't reasonably determine a 157 from a 162, with my limited experience, at a glance.

157 from a 162 would be tough "in hand" much less from a picture, esp a front view only.

There is no way that deer scored 164 5/8. Nice deer but the guy is using the old big fish technique. He's about 2' behind the deer which makes it appear bigger than it is.
