I injured my shoulder about 10y ago and the last two months it’s unbearable. I don’t think I helped matters by shooting several boxes of .270 and 30-06 about the same time it flared back up. Anyway, according to the surgeon it’s torn to heck and needs repaired. Probably means my season is shot for this year.
For you guys that have had a torn rotator cuff repaired, how long before you could shoot again?

May learn to shoot lefty, or buy some low recoil calibers for future seasons. What are some of the lowest recoil but still good for deer?

You're done for the year. I have two pins in my left shoulder holding it together. It took easily five or six months before I was close to normal. Get it done, get it over with. just one of those things.

I was on the table when hurricane Ivan came through the Golden Triangle (Sept 16 or 17) and was released to shoot on Dec 19th and was shooting 12ga 3” duck shells on 20th. I had a SLAP Bankhardt procedure (deeper into the Lepsum in front) and was in a sling for a few weeks longer before rehab started, so depending on your procedure you could be back sooner. I’d go ahead and install a Limb Saver recoil pad on whatever you plan on shooting!

seriously, I've had shoulder surgery too. Mine was immobilized for 8 weeks and then took a long time before I could use it for anything meaningful and still hurts everyday after 25 years. However, the surgery should stabilize the joint so as soon as it heals I would think shooting would be fine.

My dad tore his completely when he was in his sixties and was shooting 3 1/2 inch turkey loads a couple months later.

I'm 3 months into the same type of surgery roadkill had done. I shot my 243 a week ago and that was a mistake. I've pretty much shut it down until the rut.

Contender pistol or large bore handgun from your "good side" promise you a .45 lc or .44 special (Not Magnum) @900 fps will slapdown any deer in bama and be mild.

I tore 2 rotator cuff tendons and fractured my humerial tuberosity. Had surgery and did therapy. Killed a doe with my bow 10 weeks later. Not as bad as some weenies day it is. My surgeon, Dr. Davis at Andrews told me that I wouldn’t mess up what he fixed.

I had 2 shoulder surgeries by Dr. Clancy @ Health South in Birmingham back in '97. The first one didn't hold and the second one was a complete rebuild. I was back to shooting my bow in about 12 weeks, didn't shoot a rifle until about 5 months after. I am fixing to have to have another one, it hurts like hell everyday and keeps me up alot of nights. Shooting my -06 a couple weeks ago didn't help any. I'm going to try and put it off till after turkey season though.

I had a torn rotator cuff, bicep tore in half and detached down into my arm, damaged bursa sack and bone spurs ground out. I didn't even attempt to shoot a gun for a solid year after surgery. It was also my dominant arm so I wasn't going to chance it. First range session I did have was very unpleasant.

Get you a light recoiling rifle and shoot weak handed until your shoulder gets better.

Get you a .243. It’s sweet on the shooting end.

It is going to be a while before you can lift your arm or carry anything.
