you can minimize your scent by taking every precaution but you cannot eliminate it. You can "buy" several seconds as a deer enters your scent stream but they will eventually id what they are scenting. BUT it may buy you the five seconds you need to shoot. Ya'll must hunt a different state than I do because the wind direction seems to change every time I hunt in Alabama.
I've spent most of the money I've made in my lifetime on hunting and fishing. The rest I just wasted.....

No such thing as scent free. I bathe and wash with uncented soaps but I'm not going to extremes.

No way to be totally scent-free. My regimen is to shower with scent free products, use scent-free anti-perspirant, and use clothes that have been washed and dried in scent free detergent. In regards to my outer wear, I keep a ScentLok suit in a separate container with my pack and other outer accessories (gloves, boggins, etc.)... and the ScentLok suit is my outer garment every hunt. I believe in ScentLok products and agree with what Paul Lay told me years ago... "a deer that's 100 yards away will think you're 200-300 yards away if you're as scent free as possible". He'd go on to say that your scent would affect them, but they'd likely not blow and run. Generally speaking, that's what occurs when deer get downwind of me - they know something's up, but they don't just blow and run.

Scent free is impossible. About the only thing I do is make sure my hunting boots never touch anything but hunting land. For everything else I put my nose into the wind and hunt. Same here. I have had deer cross my path and never alarm doing this. I used to use the scent killer sprays but don't anymore as I didn't really see a difference. If a deer gets downwind they got ya imo.

Like you I do what I can to minimize scent, but I believe you can't 100% beat their sense of smell. Indeed, so playing the wind is still absolutely critical.

Until you figure out a way to not breathe while in the deer stand you will never be scent free.

Already been said, but this is simple (yet not really)...
I do what's reasonable to reduce scent as much as possible. Scent-free detergents, earth scent drayer sheets, store clothes in container with earth scent wafers, don't wear my boots anywhere but the hunting land, etc. I don't use any spray scent killer whatsoever. I do wash my hunting stuff in the same washer/dryer that we do our regular clothes in. I hunt the wind as much as possible, BUT I hunt public land a ton and don't always know where I'm even going, so it's hard to predict in advance (I hunt a military base where you draw areas based on availablity). The wind swirls, forecasts are errant, and frankly lots of times deer just come in from the wrong direction.
Can't hide your breath, your body offgases continuously, so forth.

In regards to clean boots. Ive never gotten that to work either. Ive used dedicated hunting boots where all they touch is the outdoors and my tracks will still get busted. I had a ole mama doe come up on my tracks one day with her 2 younguns. She freaked as soon as she got to them, left the younguns where they were, then followed them back a hundred yards towards the truck with, with her nose to the ground the whole way. She sniffed every step I made. Then she sniffed them back, got the kids and bolted like she had a whip cracked on her. Ive seen this kind of thing happen before, but there are times where I can wear my boots in the walmarts, buy ammo, get gas, head to the woods, have deer cross my path and never care. So I dont bother with dedicated boots anymore either.

From a chemist perspective: What exact molecule(s) are we worried about eliminating? What specific molecules do deer identify as danger/people? I can smell burning diesel from a long way. Deer don't worry about tractors. I can smell a dairy farm from 5 miles away. Does that bother deer? What odor do human give off that scares deer? Do all predators give off the same odor? Do non-predators have a different odor? Think about deer dogs: Those dogs can not only tell that a deer has crossed their path, but they can figure out which way the deer ran 2 hours ago from the strength of the scent left on the ground by a hard hoof. Think about that. You can't tell by scent that the deer has walked through there, and they know which way it was moving by the strength of the scent. I don't think that you can fool their noses. I think that you are far better off 1) Keeping hunting pressure down. 2) Hunt the wind. Their sense of smell is so far superior to ours, I don't think that we can comprehend the olfactory abilities of animals. Deer have 1,000 times better sense of smell. How good could you see with 1000 better vision. We can't even recreate their noses with all of our technology. GC's can identify a few specific chemicals, but not like an animals nose. What is 1000 times better sense of sight? Here is a vinyl record and needle at 1,000 magnification: Or you look at the night sky and this is Saturn:

We are working on this at our club we have a scent chamber we go through with negative pressure and we are testing and recording records from out hunts and encounters and hope to deliver scent control IP cant say much more about it with out a NDA but we think this one will be a winner if all works out. We are curently sourcing materials and machinery in anticipation of producing in large quantities and have some experience in this when we were going to launch out Buck Beds (TM) but out deal fell through last minute
