Feel bad for the AU fans on here. This reeks of a desperation hire after so many said no thanks to the job. Harsin is rocking a .750 average between his time at Boise and Arky State. I don't think he'll do any better in the SEC. I get emotional decisions, but dayum AU don't fire a coach without a plan in mind. You paid over $20MM to get rid of Gus. I'm not sure this guy is any better. AU doesn't have CAM walking through the door on Harsin's first season either. I just don't understand. Is this all based on some ill-concieved idea of what AU football should be?
Been here long enough to go from "bring 'da pain" to " bring 'da pain meds.

I think it’s a good hire if he told those boosters to step back and let him run the show. We will see when the assistant coaches are keep or fired. More than likely the other way around. Exactly why clark and napier turned the job down. Those boosters that penned the checks to send gus off smiling, aint gonna let him have 100% control.
The harder I practice, the luckier I get.

He’s averaged around a 9-3 record at Boise State so let’s see what he does in the SEC.

He actually has more pedigree than most coaches we hired the last 40 years - let’s look:
Chizik - OC mostly - horrible few years at Iowa st - basic nobody Bowden - freakin nobody - coach small school - think it was Sanford Gus - OC and 1 year at Ark State Only head job - HC wanna be Dye - Bear was aware that he was big time - nobody else was aware - came from Little Wyoming Tubby - the only guy in last 40 years with more pedigree than guy we just hired
Who knows - we will see - worked as Peterson’s OC for several years Peterson was big time
Up for big awards almost yearly like the Broyles award for nations top assistant - yea he may very well suck - we will see TDog.......good post I think its about as good as could of been done. Lets dont forget all the schools that hire up and comers.... Urban Meyer came from Utah to coach Florida. as well.. Thing is all the folks on here talking about all the other coaches turning down the job......LMAO... I am sure they KNOW.. LMAO.. Maybe a really good hire, we will see. At least Gus is gone!!!!!!!!!!!

Exactly OleMossy
There several articles out there saying Napier was never offered and Clark called us for an interview - Venebles did turn us down And so did Crystal ball
It’s like Dye use to say - nobody loves Auburn but Auburn - got a lot of haters and they been piling on - that’s ok
Will see what happens
He has had good success wherever he has been And he is a former qb that is good at developing them - AU was past due for a change - compared to the past coaches we hav hired which all had multiple good seasons - I like the guy. Change for us has always resulted to be positive the last 40 years - we will see what happens here!!

I think it is a better hire than Mike Price or Mike Shula, and has got to be a better fit than Francione, is this a huge spash hire, not to me, but who were they going to get? I don't mean this mean, but who is out there that is a hot commodity? Texas and Nebraska both went and got "can't miss" coaches, would Auburn fans be happy sitting where Texas and Nebraska are now? Ok, give the new guy a few years and check back in. He will definitely need an extra year because of the recruiting, speaking of recruiting, is Rodney Gardner one of those he is having to keep?

IMO a good hire. Good track record, despite the conference Boise is in. Good feedback about developing players, being solid fundamentally on O and D.
Also like the fact he told the Boise folks the league they're in sucked and wasn't beneficial to the university if it wanted to be better. Whether he has that moxie with Harbert, YellaFella and whoever else is sticking their fingers in the pie at AU remains to be seen.
Harsin wanted to coach in a big boy league. He got his wish. Time will tell how it turns out.

My bad - the yep above was for what Orion said
Pretty much everybody we had as coach since Dye and including Him has been one of those who the heck is this guy moments except for Tubby
If you look at that time frame since the start of Dye - the series w Bama win loss is about dead even - w a bunch of misfit coaches mainly
Looks like more if the same 😀

The powers at auburn should have just called Boise State and asked if they would trade Malzahn for Harsin straight up. I bet the Broncos would have accepted.

Looks like more if the same 😀 You act like Bama didn't have a string of misfit coaches during that time frame. Curry and Shula went a smooth 0-7 against Auburn. Outside of Tuberville, who was fortunate enough to pile up wins during Shula's tenure, none of the coaches during that time period had a winning record against Alabama, including the "great" Pat Dye, who only managed 6-6 against Bama even with Curry's 0-3. The only Bama coaches with a pulse during that time period were Stallings and Saban...and the record reflects it.
