I shot a doe at 14 yards in the head (actually right down the ear canal) it dropped like a rock. It was too easy! It keeps from having to trail one!

Good shot!

Should have gotten a picture of the arrow sticking out.

Guess I'll have to be the one to say it rolleyes , not a very advisable shot on a deer with a bow.

Just ask ol Slingshot what can happen when you shoot one in the head. frown

Not an advisable shot with anything.

I have a hard enough time trying to hit the vitals. I'm sure gonna miss a head shot.

I'm sure Michael Waddell could have done it blind foulded though!!!

I had a doe quartering away at 31 yards Sunday. She jumped the string and it hit her in the side of the head and came out her lower jaw. She is still running. Not smart to TRY to hit one there. The area of kill is much too small. I hope I can see her during gun season so I can end her misery.

Will track deer in Marengo, Greene, Sumter, Wilcox, Perry, Hale counties.

Just my opinion, for what it counts, but I think its a crappy shot to take regardless of weapon of choice. If it was the only shot that presented itself then you should pass on the deer. Too much room for wounding an animal, and putting it through pure hell, that you may never find. I passed on a large buck several years ago because the only shot I had was a head shot and I just personally didn't feel comfortable taking the shot. Another guy I hunted with later killed the deer and it turned out to be a big 11 pointer which would have been my personal best. Not patting myself on the back just saying it wasn't worth it for me. :twocents:

I actually killed one with a head shot about 8 years ago. She was quartered away at 35 yards and jumped the string when I shot. I hit her between the ears in the back of the head and exited through her left nostril.

I had confidense in my shooting skills, it was only 14 yards and i have been hitting my target at that distance for a long time. She was quatered away except her head was looking at something in my general direction, so i felt confident, the wind was not a factor, had plenty of light and my hands were steady as a surgeon.
I will post picture later.

Fireman,your shooting skills are irrelevant.
Too many things can happen, deer moving hitting a twig. The point you miss is its unethical to attempt that shot. You could easily knock off a deers lower jaw leaving it to starve to death.

I agree with MANY of you!!!

It's an IRRESPONSIBLE shot choice, esp with a bow and I would NOT attempt such a shot and certainly not brag about it.

Glad to hear responsible bow hunters stand up and be heard.
