Just throwing out a line for anyone interested in a trip to Colorado for Elk Hunting (rifle).

Maybe do a drop camp or backpack or even join a guided hunt.

I have a line on an awesome guided hunt for up to 4 people the week of thanksgiving in what is supposedly a great area for winter elk range.

Depending on elevation and terrain, weather conditions by then can almost shut down the ability to get around. The animals may be there but that doesn’t mean they’re huntable. We’ve had our hunts ground to a halt in third rifle more than once.

No problem Tree, I just thought it was worth mentioning. I wish you luck and I’m sure you’ll have a great time. I love Colorado and Elk hunting. I’ve been 14 consecutive years and look forward to many more. If there’s anything I can do for you, let me know.

I think you misunderstood Wapiti. He was saying that sometimes it is just not physically possible to hunt because of the weather. It has nothing to do with the desire to hunt. Those late season hunts are a crapshoot. Either super hunting or not possible to hunt.

Agree with wapiti we will be the mountains last week of September and will be prepared for snow in the high country. 11000 is the highest elevation where we will be and it can be in 60 with storms or 10 degrees with snow.

Snow brings them down to a more tolerable altitude. It is good for Elk hunting. When I was in Big Sky hunting none of us saw elk until it snowed. 2 of the 5 of us killed elk after the day after it snowed so snow is good until it becomes a blizzard.
