I don’t know how some people say they can’t/have never been able to hear a turkey drumming in the woods. I’ve got a pet turkey in a pen 75yds from the house and I’m sitting in the living room and can hear him drumming through the closed windows.

I've had birds wake me up multiple times while I'm sleeping because they are in the yard drumming. Windows closed

I never really heard it until the last couple years. Now I can hear it in YouTube hunt videos.

I think I'm one of those people. I know when I was a kid I heard turkey drumming in videos, but after a decade being around military aviation I can't hear it. I have severe tinnitus and a touch of hearing loss, so maybe that has something to do with it. I can't even hear it when it's on a video.

Sucks.

I can hear it in the woods but not that far from inside the house, you got super hearing!

I can’t hear a Turkey drumming because I’m almost deaf but I can use Walkers hearing device and hear it
I can hear when the spit.....I think the drumming is in the range of sound where my hearing is bad

I can hear the "spit", but not the drum. Hearing loss is to blame.

I used to hunt with a guy who had a pet turkey. That’s how I learned what drumming sounds like. As far a spitting, I hunted in Nebraska a few years ago and my son and I were tucked up in a big cedar tree. I called in flock of jakes and they literally just about ran us over. Came in from around the tree spitting all the way.

Some gobblers simply drum louder than others. At times, I’ve barely heard them drum while watching them in gun range. Other times, it’s surprisingly far. More the former for me.

I can't hear it. Never have been able to. My hearing is pretty good as fair as I know and I'm not tone deaf at all.

to me - it’s easier to hear it if he gobbles first

My main turkey hunting partner (who is an awesome hunter) can't hear drumming unless the birds are in our lap. I hate that for him because it sure is fun to hear that humming coming up the ridge.

I have tough time distinguishing drumming , But when I hear one spit I almost throw my gun up in the air if they close.

I would think that if you took a hearing test, you will find that your low frequency hearing is bad. I don't know how that would happen; might have just been born that way.

I have lost all of my high frequency hearing. I don't hear anything but the key hitting on the first few keys of a piano. But my low frequency is still ok, and I believe that a turkey drumming is the lowest frequency sound in nature.

I would be interested to see the results

Many years ago, I had one coming in not gobbling. Just drumming
First heard him about 120 yards out. In 12 I had one that didn't spit before drumming,
I could here him but couldn't figure out what that racket was. Until I realized what it actually was.

if i hadnt taken up hunting i might have became a juvenile delinquent or worst taken up GOLF

I can hear em gobble but haven’t heard em drum in years
I went totally deaf in my left ear from a benign tumor and
It is a bitch to hunt when you can’t tell where they at .
I can make a noise and not know where it comes from
Plus i have tinnitus real bad in that ear . Its frustrating as all hell
But i refuse to give up turkey hunting . I can’t move on a bird
So i just sit and wait . Bad hearing in both ears is better than decent hearing in one
Good luck to all this season
