I think I need to approach some of these mayors about being handicapped parking lot enforcement. The don't have to furnish any benefits or even a vehicle. Just give me a badge and a ticket book and I'll work on commission. Sign says ticket is $500. I'd take 10% of that. In the 45 minutes or so I was in a Publix parking lot Saturday I could have made $200. Of the 8 different cars only two had a HC tag or sticker. I would have let the other 2 off because the had people that may have been handicapped with them. The other four had nothing displayed and were healthy as a horse. Other than being maybe a little "entitled". It was all I could do to MYOB. PD sure don't drive through there looking for the extra cash. It would be easy for a while until folks figured they meant business. But then they would park where they are supposed too.

I think it's not really enforceable unless the city/county is responsible for maintaining the publix parking lot.

Well just looked at the Alabama law. It has to be a qualified LEO. But it is a state law. Guess nobody ever calls when they see it happening. I bet somebody parked in one of those spaces at Krispe Kreme would get a ticket.

Took dog to the groomer couple weeks ago while raining. Guy pulls up parallel parks and takes up both handicapped spaces to drop his mutt off. As I'm walking out, an old lady walks in wanting to know who the hell is taking up both spaces. She lit his young ass up. Never heard a man say sorry mam so many times before.

Well it is an ADA law that says they have to provide spaces. Think I'm just going to start calling it in every time I see it happening. Anybody want to guess the age, race, and sex of the four I happened to see Saturday? One pulled into handicapped when there was an open spot right next to the handicapped one. I guess that was the one that got me all bent out of shape. It isn't against the law for LEO or emergency vehicles to park there.

Now some cities have gone to civilian workers being on patrol with the ability to write parking infraction tickets. Not sure how they would hold up in court if they were challenged but most people get the point. We had our school guards in Selma do this in the downtown area. The key was there was no per ticket pay for them just straight per hour pay. They loved this when they were scheduled because it was beyond the school crossing time they were paid.

Some cities provide their Citizen Patrol employees with a vehicle to check handicap spots. A lot of liability in this, but some cities have the resources to do this. Most don't however.

Able-bodied people who park in the "handicapped" spaces are low-life mouthbreathing sorry-ass POS scum trash.

As someone with a relative who has a decal-hangtag and needs it, and whose late grandmother had one and needed it, I'm in the "beat their ass hard with rubber hoses and antennae and whatever else" camp.

I have noticed the food delivery drivers here in Birmingham have started parking in the handicap spaces in busy parking lots when they pick up food. When I worked in downtown Birmingham there was a 20ish year old lady that would park in the handicap space on the 4th floor of the parking deck everyday. The handicap spot was directly by the stairs. She would get out of her car, take four flights of stairs and walk two blocks to work in high heels. She had a HC mirror tag hanging in her car.

As long as the tickets are all valid, I personally see no ethical issue with working on commision. Illegality is kind of a fluid thing and can change or morph over time - sometimes quite rapidly.

Got one of those tickets 26 years ago. Had just dropped my wife off at the emergency room entrance. Our first child was only hours away. Drove up the what ever floor the maternity ward was on. May have bee 6 other cars parked. I snagged a spot closest to the elevator. It was a handicap spot but there were about a dozen more. After my daughter was born and all that goes with it I went to leave. There was our car and a ticket. Still only about 6 cars. I found the fellow in his little buggy and tried to explain. He wouldn't hear it. He did however hear probably the worst chewing out I've ever dealt out.

When you take someone to the store who is old or can't get around on their own you'll understand.

Pizzes me off every time I see a Democrat whip into one of these spaces, jump out and Sprint a 4.5 sec 40 to the door.

Azzholes who have no business in a HC space should have their legs broken so they will understand why some people NEED these areas.
