Problem with the proposed bill is that the ADHA has included blood tracking dogs into their verbiage. Blood tracking dogs are not deer hunting dogs. It has been shot down in the Senate, but they are reintroducing the bill to the house from what Ive been reading. Ive called my representative and several others in opposition to this bill. If youve ever had a deer lost and called on a tracker this bill will effect them if it passes. They want 2500.00 registration fee to be a hunt master through the state. Its just more gobbly goop and money. I’m sure that you’ve read into it more than I. But I read an article where Stutts said blood trackers would be excluded from the Bill. Also it’s not a statewide lift of the ban if it was to pass. This legislation would not affect those counties where the voters have banned hunting for deer with dogs by referendum but would nullify the Alabama Conservation Advisory Board bans over the next three years.

Heard the other day that it is proposed to make dog hunting legal state wide again. Can we use Alpo as bait?

So you can run dogs on WMAs and National Forest starting in 2024. That sounds like fun. Sounds like I might have to start back buying a management licenses again

If the still hunting crowds are as bad and a lot of posters on here say they are, it ought to get real exciting when you throw 25 or 30 dog hunting groups into the mix. Need to get with a clothing manufacturer and come up with a patented design for Kevlar or BP coveralls.

The problem I have with dog hunting is a dog club can interrupt and ruin a guys day or weekend who is just trying to spend some time with his kids or friends. A still hunter isn’t doing anything to ruin the dog hunters weekend away from work. If a still hunter road around all day on a dog hunters club screaming and running deer out the dog hunters blocks, the dog hunter would be angry. They don’t seem to grasp that some people don’t want their dogs doing that to the land they pay to still hunt. I’m just gonna step out on a limb and say if you as a still hunter are dumb enough to join a dog hunting club and then complain about people dog hunting then you deserve to be miserable. Lol I understand people getting upset that have issues with neighbors but to join a club and complain...... Thats just Dumb!!!

I didn’t say I was joining a dog club. I haven’t had to deal with deer dogs in years. Nobody runs them around us. All our land is bordered by interstate, so it would be bad for the dogs. I was just pointing out that when I dealt with it the dog hunters never seemed to grasp why people got upset about dogs running through the property. They would always answer that their dogs might run a big buck by you. They didn’t seem to understand some people just wanted some peace and quiet and didn’t want to hear all the noise and barking and didn’t want to watch a deer being run by a pack of walker hounds. Some people just want to watch a deer feed. Some folks know you can do both successfully on the same price of property. All my dog hunting is done in Fl. At least here, the dog hunt WMAs get so much less still hunting pressure than the still hunt areas, that (IMO) you have a better chance of killing deer still hunting a dog area than still hunting a still hunt area. I'm speaking of hard hunted still hunt areas, vs hard hunted dog hunt areas. I understand someone that doesn't dog hunt not wanting to hear dogs, but just because a race comes through, it doesn't mean all the deer lay up tight and shut down. Deer that are used to hearing dogs really just go on about their day if they're not the one being run. Again, I understand that some folks don't want to hear dogs while hunting. I like the way Fl has still hunt areas and dog hunt areas. Though I wish we had more dog areas, the small WMAs do need to be still hunt. With separate areas for both the still hunters hunting the dog hunt areas shouldn't be fussing about dogs, though sometimes they still do.
May the sound of hounds never die!

On one of the military bases I hunt “feral dog” is listed as an approved game animal for harvest, folks that bring their dogs have mucho rules and have to wear orange vest, collars , and such too. I will continue to kill unleashed dogs. I’ve killed so many dogs across the states I live and hunt that I keep a plastic kids pool in the bed of my truck so they don’t leave blood everywhere. I used to call the sheriff after I’d kill them but they finally told me just to chunk them. Its seems like there is a pattern of particular breeds these drug and criminals set loose to run around too. Out here in Texas I killed three at once that ran me up a tree, I cut their heads off and put them on fence post like catfish heads and the sheriff asked me not to do that anymore. In most of the encounters where the owners would post a lost poster it would say how nice the dog was.

You can’t tell me anything on the subject. Back when we used to use dogs the population of hunters and deer was pretty low. There is no reason for a hunter to need a dog to harvest some damn meat and it ain’t the same kinda sport as rabbit, coon, or hog hunting. Heck, a “real” hunter shouldn’t need a tracking dog either. I grew up as a barefoot rednek trash poacher in Alabama using breeds other than hounds for deer and some of the folk got a kick out of catching the deer like they do hogs. I had my fill way back when and been killing dogs every since. Even when I used to drown deer in the Alabama River or kill them with T-post, chicken wire, and ball bat, it weren’t as sad as hunting deer with dogs.
I’m just saying hunting dogs are gonna get shot, especially on private land. The state should mandate breeds, the dogs wear orange, have shots, and collared for corpse identification and lawsuits.
Once they pass it I’m going back to buckshot because I enjoy hunting dogs more than hogs. And, if its collared I’m gonna show up at the address when the wind is right with a can of gasoline at 3 am.
Deer dogs and corn feeders, Alabama is making progress.

Heck, a “real” hunter shouldn’t need a tracking dog either. . One could also say that a “real” LEO shouldn’t need a Malinois or German Shepard too………Or you could say that its the real ones that DO have one……..Same with tracking dogs………Having one in addition to MY skills is what makes me a “real” hunter in my mind as you call it……Without one you're just another guy who thinks his pride is better than a dog's nose…..I mean, by all means… lay your gun down too if you like……I think I’ll keep both of them on my hip though

Just keep him off my property (and plenty others) or the dog will be buzzard and opossum meat.
Can’t tell me nothing about “working dogs” either as I am right here at the birthplace and have worked with them for almost thirty years. I don’t do the drug kits but do the explosive kits and tracking exercises fairly often.
I don’t have “pride” I just have my opinion. I just think it's better all around without dogs chasing deer. This is very important when you have folk on both sides of the issue. In the end there will be trouble, dead dogs, hurt feelings, and injured redneks.
In true Alabama trailer trash rednek fashion though, you ain’t gonna tell me nuthin about nuthin…I’m right !
