My wife had a great uncle from Wilcox County named Nanny Goat Champion. I have no idea what his real name was. I had always heard of him doing his plowing with a mule and was even told that the mule road in the back of a truck like a dog. Well one year the Champions had a big BBQ next to a creek down there. They brought the mule along. I had to see it load up in the back of the truck so they showed me. He walked the mule up to the side of the bed and said "Load up" and that mule threw his front legs over the side of the truck. It was a smaller truck, a Ford Ranger if I recall correctly. The mule then jumped his hind legs in the back. That thing loaded up in the back of the truck and stood there like he owned it. If I hadn't seen it I never would have believed it.

Nanny Goat passed away about ten years ago. I have no idea on the mule, but I imagine he went with Nanny Goat's son Cubby, who was a very talented musician, until Cubby passed a few years ago.

Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.
