i'm assuming "air in the line" - but - i've turned my water off before long trips & never heard this racket before
the diffrence could of been, when you went on the trip no one flushed the toilets so the lines stayed full, this time someone could of flushed the toilet while the water was off. Even though you know the water is off, out of habit, you'll hit the lever, I do anyways. take the tank lid off and see what happens when you flush it. My guess would be air in the line.

My guess would be air in the line. yes, i believe this is what happened ... but i have good news to report -- the issue seems to have resolved itself ... the toilets are flushing w/o the exploding noises now, thankfully! the water still looks & tastes weird tho ... maybe that'll resolve itself, as well, soon thx everybody!

a few years ago the city fixed a main water line. Afterwards my water tasted different and looked aerated/carbonated/ bubbly as you described. We called and the lady said it should go away in a few days. It lasted a week or 2 but did finally go away.

It lasted a week or 2 but did finally go away. 10-4 ... now that we’re talking about this, the water does have kind of a setzer/tonic water taste to it
