As long as you have it disk fairly well you can time your seed spreading right before a decent rain and you don’t have to cover it.

Does it really matter about the angle of the disc? or is it something everybody has just done and keeps on doing, I never adjust mine and plant oats every year and they come up good
Edit to say, I don't bury the disc either and drag a cross tie behind the disc

You should think about EVERYTHING... yes, there are various ways to plant and cover seed. If you've done a great job and you have level ground after you disk and you don't have furrows and mounds of dirt rows all over, you can lightly disk the ground with straight disk and lightly cover the seeds. If your ground is uneven, the disk will cover some seed too deep and not cover some seed at all.
Will the seed germinate after a rain if it's on top of the ground? Of course!!! But that seed that germinates on top of the ground, when being snipped off by a deer immediately after a small amount of growth, will more than likely be pulled up and roots and all will come with it causing the entire plant to be consumed. IF... IF, you have covered your seed appropriately (not too deep... not too shallow), the root system may save that plant from being pulled totally away and possibly saving the plant as the roots will save it from coming all the way out of the ground when a deer pulls on it.
That's the reason why I like my seeds to be covered at the appropriate depth AND, also, turkeys and song birds won't be able to see the seed.

The chain link method mentioned above works great. The disc with no angle works for larger grains but will cover some clovers too deep. I like to cover the grains and then top sew fine clovers and then cultipack.
I agree!

I have drug mine with a chain link fence with a wood frame, a pallet, and I have disked it in. I have also broadcast it into standing beans and done nothing. No matter what, then I go back after and add brassicas and clover.
I sort of like to cover them, since the turkeys will be on the fields in a hurry once they figure out there is seed on top. Chain link fence works great but does not last very long on our rocky soil...
