You guys can opt out of future month payments and take the balance of the credit on your tax return next spring. I think you just have to complete the opt out steps by the Thursday prior to next pay date… something like that.

And if you filed married joint then both you and your spouse actually have to opt out independently or the other will receive half of the monthly credit.

They are clearly making of difficult to not receive the money up front.

I figure when this happens, they'll just send another check. 🙄 It was complicated to opt out. Decided to put it into savings for tax time. I'm in the category of people that pay in each year.

I did not realize this. I feel much better about it and agree that there will be some sticker shock next year come tax time. WalMart is going to take a hard hit on the lack of wide screen TVs being sold.

Yep pretty simple. They send a percentage of your child tax credit (which they increased per child) monthly, so when ppl file taxes next spring, they will already have received a portion of their deduction. I really don’t think you’ll see a big change in total tax refunds though because they increased it so much those who’ve always received a refund will still get a refund in the increased child credit amount.
