I'M DEFINITELY FOR CONCEALED AND CARRY. Dr. B
Dr. B, go through a hand gun training course, to make yourself more comfortable, with the idea of concealed carry and to make yourself knowledgeable, with their operation and use. Once you start carrying concealed, it becomes 2nd nature and you don't even think about it.
If you’re a common sense person, you probably don’t feel you have a home in this world right now. If you’re a Christian, you know you were never meant to.

Until the majority of law abiding citizens go back to open carry there will be similar instances and I completely understand the situation and agree with the Doc. Tomorrow if any of you that I don't know come onto my property openly carrying, I will drawdown on you and ORDER you to disarm. You are on MY property and I'll decide who open carries on my real estate. If you conceal carry we'll likely never know that both of us were armed. When the day comes that we all open carry as the general rule, tensions will be mostly gone and rule of law will get more respect than it does today.....at least amongst law abiding clans/communities. I would question if it is legal or not to draw a firearm on someone that is not posing any threat to you, just because you see a firearm on his side. That, in my opinion, would open you up to being drawn on and lead to somebody getting killed. Maybe you. Why not just cautiously ask the individual to put the gun up. Seems careless to me. I'M DEFINITELY FOR CONCEALED AND CARRY. In fact, I've made the decision to buy a handgun and will get a permit for it. On top of that I may even have it with me at times while I'm in the office, like in my desk or something or if I have to see a patient late on call. I don't know because I've never had a hand gun. I'll just wait and see....
It just unnerved the crap outta me when this dude rolled up into my waiting room with a fire arm.... permit or not.
Dr. B
That is probably why it made you uncomfortable. You do not own handguns or have much, if any, experience with them. Unfortunately this is probably the case with a lot of people. It is why the patients in your waiting room were uneasy.

Why does it bother people when they see someone open carrying? We were in that outlet mall in pigeon forge back in april..in a clothing store there...my 10yo Addison pointed out that a guy had a sidearm on his belt. He and his girl were shopping, not bothering anyone so to me it was a non-issue.
The harder I practice, the luckier I get.

If anyone wants to question my strong support of gun ownership or the right to conceal and carry, you are ignorant. I've been on this site for longer than most except the moderators. I was member #126 within the first few months this site got up. Username was "Dr. B" but it got lost when the site crashed or something several years ago. I think I've earned a few stripes along the way and although I may not be the smartest member, the best hunter, or the most vocal, do not question my passion for gun ownership or the right to carry a firearm for self protection. I will vehemently defend my position.
Since my comments seem to have ignighted a few people, let me to clarify a couple of things. When you have an office staff that is 99.9% women and a waiting room full of moms and children and elderly folks, as I do on a daily basis, I have duty to provide a safe environment for us all. I shouldn't have to put a sign on the door that says "No firearms allowed." I mean if you come in with a Ruger LCP in your pocket, how am I gonna know? That's you're right. However, if you come in with a gun showing in plain sight which is putting everyone on edge and you don't resemble a law enforcement officer, expect to be politely questioned. It's my place and I get to ask the questions. I would expect the same from you.
Now if I'm at Target or a restaurant or someplace in public, I don't know how I'd feel if I saw someone openly carrying. I may be nervous. I may feel safer. Since I've never seen it, I can't say.
One thing that makes this site so awesome is that we've got some diverse folks on here and we don't agree on everything. But the one thing we all have in common is love of life, family, and country. And we would all protect each with whatever means necessary. I know I would.

good post Dr.B.
I also remember the look on your receptionists faces when I walked in and picked up two garbage bags of old hunting clothes and gear to donate to a needy family. I'm pretty sure the little girl killed her first turkey this year wearing some of that gear.

"Patterson said Title 14, 175, Code of Alabama 1940, states:" Not anymore it don't. I might have under the Code of Alabama 1940, but it doesn't now. There ain't no Title 14 Section 175. Could be a misquote by the reporter. On the other hand, Patterson may just not know what the law says. We've got so many, cops can't keep up with all of them either.

Dr. B
The problem is Doc, there ain't no right to conceal and carry in Alabama since our Legislature and our Supreme Court placed the common law of England over the express terms of our state constitution. The right to bear arms with a pistol is now confined to open carry. Your sheriff may issue you a pemit to participate in the "evil practice of bearing arms secretly", or he may not. It's up to him and him alone. I'm a father who has a daughter that was working in a pharmacy where three armed men came in to rob the place and get drugs. I think you probably have some drugs on hand that those men may like to get their hands on too. No one was armed except the criminals. One of the criminals forced my daughter to the floor, handcuffed her, placed his knee on her back and held a pistol to her head during the robbery. The owner's wife was held in the same manner by one of the other criminals. The owner's son was struck in the head by the third criminal and forced to fill containers with money and drugs. The owner was at the hospital getting a chemo treatment for cancer. The drugs were the main reason for the crime. Those three men are still free. Next time they want drugs, they may visit your place. It's easy for them when they are the only ones who are armed. So you see, we all have our reasons for believing one way or the other. I choose to support our Constitutions.
