I have bounced back and forth on whether to weigh in on this, but here I am.
As far as the practice of playing worship music, we must examine the scriptures to make sure it is acceptable or not. Does it conform to God's word or does it violate it? I have very few songs that have been published that I can sit and say are blatant errors and violate the scriptures. Your personal preference or thoughts on the person who wrote the music should not play into the fact that these songs either agree or disagree with scripture. God uses flawed people everyday to accomplish His goals. God even uses non-christians to speak to me and show me things we wants me to learn. Discernment is key and no blanket statements can be accurate all the time.
Now, as far as the lifestyle and beliefs of the church/authors of the songs, if i were going to pay them to come speak at my church or attend a live event where they had the freedom to say whatever they wanted, I would be more interested in their personal beliefs/values. While, yes it can be a slippery slope if discernment is not applied, you can use their material without bringing their lifestyle into it.
It all comes down to your motivation for worship. If it is honoring God, I cannot see where a limitation could or should be placed on it. Note I said honoring God, not self/culture.
Lastly, i will add that if you cannot find yourself closer to God when you worship Him you are doing it wrong. While the purpose is not to bless ourselves, we definitely should be blessed when we enter His presence. Well said~ The worst and most controversial Christian music on the radio is still “better spiritually for the listener” than the other garbage on the radio. Yes, I’m guilty of listening to the other garbage also.
You're only as good as your worst shot-

I make it a point to not listen to any christian music that sounds like a man fixing to cry, such as most of the popular stuff of the last 15 years. they want to turn us all into crybabies instead of strong men so that they can push their agendas while we are busy crying. As far as I know the southern baptist are still holding strong, I am pleased with the sbc for now for not giving in to social pressure. What does “sounds like a man fixing to cry” even mean? Can you provide an example? To the OP, I understand what you’re saying about music from churches that have beliefs contrary to one’s own, but at the same time, I’m not sure I’ve EVER attended a church that 100% agreed with everything that I do about the Bible (obviously small differences as I wouldn’t attend a church that I have major issues with). I believe that we can be blessed by music from any church as long as the music itself is Biblical. yeah 90% of contempory christian music. its kindof a raspy sound like they are just about to break out balling. anyhow yeah that crybaby music turns some men off, I asked one of my friends who was in the biz, and he told me that there was a push to feminize worship services, thus all the soft spoken raspy singing.

I also don't listen to Christian music from churches that has anyone on staff who has been divorced, committed adultery, murder, battling addiction. I only support music from sinless sources. I hope you're trolling.

A sin is a sin... let's not pick and chose which sin we want to be critical of...that's sinful in of itself. As christians homosexuals are an easy target but we let the sin of gluttony just get a free pass. No one ever says I don't support X church because the preacher got too fat went threw a divorce..... nah we forgive that real quick.

Divorce isn’t a sin if there’s infidelity….

Divorce isn’t a sin if there’s infidelity…. I was about to post the same. There is also a distinct difference in repenting of a sinful lifestyle AND CHANGING (Romans 12:1-2) and someone who is unrepentant and continues on in a sinful lifestyle.

Yall do a little follow up reading on divorce and infidelity. What does Jesus say about it?(Matthew 19:8) Another question about divorce. When the Bible says two people being married are one flesh and no man can separate them, was it a man who wrote up those divorce papers? Theres alot more to this marriage/ divorce thing than just the one scripture Moses wrote. Might aught to add them all together and see what the sum of it is. Since marriage is a covenant, you might study breaking covenants, or if theres a precedent getting out of a covenant.

Paul didn't say to not even sit and eat at the same table (with gluttons). we know that not one sin is small enough to enter heaven, but there are some that are even worse to the point that they are called an abomination against God. we don't make the rules. but for the record iam all for leading homesexuals to a decision. just some of my views, I know that these thoughts are unpopular, but maybe someone sees this and says that makes sense.

God said homosexuals are worthy of death . Not only homosexuals but also those who have pleasure in them. I dont recall God ever saying you should die if you eat too much, i could be wrong That’s not the only one JW he said was worthy of death either, can’t leave the rest of em out…

Careful pointing to homosexuality as the only abomination in the Lord's eyes. There are several more and there is also a verse referencing 7 things God hates . Most of us have been guilty of pride , lying and stirring up controversy. Thank God for His grace and mercy. Jesus is the only way and any who fail to come to him are worthy of death. Not just homosexuals. The first few verses in this link deal with God's hate for homosexuality but make sure to read the whole list of things God hates and I'd bet it will make several of us uncomfortable. Also, worship music of any kind isn't for us to enjoy. It's about worshiping God and as long as the lyrics are in line with scripture it shouldn't matter if we like it or not. We get so caught up in pleasing our own tastes that we forget to worry about worshiping and pleasing God. https://www.kingjamesbibleonline.org/Bible-Verses-About-Abomination/

I wouldn't be so fast to compare those two. Many pastors have lost the pulpit due to divorce. But I do get your point and I agree that sin is sin.

I dont recall God ever saying you should die if you eat too much, i could be wrong Sexual sin is inside the body so there is a difference in our earthly consequences for these sins. But in the scope of eternity, ALL sin contains death spiritually. The end result is the same. Hell, if not for Christ.

Since ARC was already mentioned also beware of NAR; New Apostolic Reformation. That is where the Bethel and Hillsong music stems from. They have many and various practices of worship that is not scriptural and is actually a lure away from good biblical direction. They practice things given to kundalini worship which is pagan to the core. Here are some good informative links… https://youtu.be/Y0uFSYHVSRkhttps://bereanresearch.org/dominionism-nar/But be careful of the rabbit hole. That is, know what is out there but be certain to be immersed in the study of the Scriptures. Music that sings about “me” is always terrible but the music that magnifies and worships the glory of God is powerful for it convicts the soul and engages the mind to know that we are nothing without Gods grace and mercy.
Sow righteousness for yourselves and reap faithful love; break up your unplowed ground. It is time to seek the Lord until He comes and sends righteousness on you like the rain. - Hosea 10:12
