What's the closest you've had a deer walk to you while ground hunting? I had a doe sniff me out at 20 yards away, last year, but she kept stomping and coming closer until she picked me out at about 7 yards from her.

I have just about switched to only hunting from my Turkey vest. I hole up in a thick patch and sneak around as needed through the day.

Closed for me is probably 10 feet on a doe I shot last year. If I had waited 10 more seconds I would have seen the big, chocolate horned six following her. Oops.

I was sitting in a kudzu patch brushed in and grunted at a six pointer walking the edge and he walked to within 4 or 5 ft of me and was looking past me....turned around and went back the way he was going.....then I had a nice 8 pointer walking a field rd as I was walking in one morning with my red light, I seen his eyes and he kept coming right at me til around 8 or 10 ft. He finally stopped and bobbed and weaved...run his ol nose out at me...prolly stood there 30 or 40 seconds before he bolted...His eyes were glowing in my red light and he never seen it-lol

That one came within 10 ft but I put my phone down cuz I wasn't sure how he'd react when he saw me lol

Went we with my wives uncle several year ago. He dropped me off and said there is a ladder stand about a 100 yards down a holler. Got there and stand was on the side of a steep hill and looked pretty sketchy. Somewhat scared of heights I found a good spot to sit on the ground. Had a Winchester M94 and had it pointed out in front of me. Had 2 yearlings walk up from my left. The first one walked right up to me and sniffed the end of the barrel. Didn’t take him long to figure out something wasn’t right scared the crap out of me when he took off.
Same club I was sitting in a shooting house on the ground. Had a spike come out in the patch with a dog collar around his neck. Joker walks right up to the house and sticks his head in the window. Pretty neat experience on both occasions.

Spike elk at 15 ft. I was sitting on a log leaned back against another tree that the log had fallen beside of. He knew something was wrong but never figured out what I was. He turned and walked away.

I’ve been hunting from the ground on and off for 30 years. Not sure why but I get a kick out of it. On more than one occasion I’ve had deer writhing touching distance but the wind has to be perfect. Can’t tell you how many times I’ve had them close enough I could smell them (again wind!). Here’s a pic I took a couple years ago during bow season. Both bucks are at 15 or so yards in the pic. Had to wait until they walked off to snap the pic 😂.

I’ve had does within 10-15 yards and not even have a care in the world I guess it’s all about scent control and brushing in real good.

Bout three ft. It’s pretty cool to get that close to one. I was sitting on a trail one time and had a fawn come running by not realizing I was there and I felt the wind off of him when he ran by. Seems like in turkey season I can get within a few ft of deer but during deer season I can’t get within a hundred yards of one

I was sitting on a log and a 1 yr old doe wanted me to move off her trail. my daughter shot a 5pt at bankhead last week at 5 yrds, I told her to sit in a chair on the road and anybuck crossing would be guaranteed to stop broadside for a few seconds and look at her. and thats what happened.

Two young deer nibbled on the briars around me and my pants two seasons ago. They were probably at least half the size of the doe with em. The end of the barrel was right over ones head, and it was just eatin my pants. If it only knew

To be spooked so easy, at times they seem completely ignorant. Had a young 8 point scare me pretty good once, came straight at me to 5 yds. Couldn't even draw the bow.

Almost got trampled by a doe being chased once. She was coming straight at me and at about 10' I waved my arm and she turned.

Five feet. Could see the snot dripping from a does nose. She and two others got within five feet and all of a sudden the lead doe got a good whiff and I saw her eyes get big and she snorted and spun around and almost knocked the other two over getting out of there.
