So thanks to Gundoc for helping me out. Turns out that when I grabbed the ammo someone (me or one of my kids) had dropped a Hornady 6.5x55 back into a box that I thought was a brand new box of Hornady .25-06.

When I loaded to shoot at the CMP Range in Talladega my first round in that gun was a 6.5x55 and the case separated and lodged in the chamber. The extractor got stuck due to the ammo pressure but I got extremely lucky and didn't damage the rifle at all. I'm thankful for that because you're not able to get a whole lot of replacement parts for these from Browning these days since they don't make it anymore.
