I’m home sick this morning and can’t make it to church. So, I turned on a hunting channel, which I haven’t done in years. I guess I had forgotten just how bad those shows are. Seems like they have maybe two minutes dedicated to driving to the stand, being on stand, and after the shot. Everything else is commercials. For those of you that watch them more often, are there any good ones I need to check out?

The only good stuff is on YouTube. Hollis Farms, Catman and a whole slew of em if you wanted.

I always enjoy them telling us about hunting tonight on a friends farm. Especially when there is no actual farming being done and it’s the afternoon.

I started trying to do some self filming hunting and just outdoors stuff. And I’ll tell you one thing, it’s a hell of a lot harder than it looks. It’s a ass load more work taking in cameras, trying to get deer on video and a kill shot is sure some work, especially with a bow in Alabama. It’s not near as easy as I thought it was anyway. Now some of these shows on these high fence places may be easy to film. But these Alabama woods makes it tough, or for me it does anyway.
A friend, the Bible and a banker will get you though about anything.

As far as TV shows goes MeatEater is the only one I enjoy, the rest are ridiculous. THP and Catman as far as YouTube goes. Agree. I saw one not long ago and this guy is going on and on about his habitat improvement and blah blah blah. He is sitting in a ground blind on the edge of a high sage grass field and numerous deer come in and feed in the exact same spot in the tall grass right in front of his blind, clearly there must be bait there but it is cleverly hidden by the sage grass. He eventually shoots a buck and then goes on and on about scouting and habitat crap but he is clearly just hunting a baited spot! Total bs. The cutesy husband and wife ones make me want to puke. Love Catman and THP. Those dudes have good woodsmanship skills.

If you’re filming and hunting by yourself, then I’m sure that’s tough. Most shows on tv have a hunter and camera man though. I agree also with being easier in a high fence place. A friend of mine killed a really large buck last week at a high fence place here in Alabama. He was taken there by a vendor he buys parts from. Beautiful buck but it literally was like shooting a pet. They even told him the exact time to be at the place he was going to hunt. Left his house, drove an hour and a half, shot a monster buck, and drove back home an hour and a half, all within about 4-5 hours.

Self filming is like any other part of hunting, learn what not to do next time, and work a little harder when your doing it. But I’ve enjoyed it so far.
