Think of it this way, sound travels over 1000ft per second. My Buck Commander Cross Bow will scoot an arrow 365ft per second. So the further you are from the deer the more likely he will here the sound of your bow and duck to jump causing you to shoot over him. Therefore the closer you are the less likely the sound will reach his ears before the arrow hits his heart. My opinion with a fast bow and noisy woods 40 yards max, 25 yards ideal.
