Is there a way to see how many deer were reported last as of today's date?? It seems like someone on here had that information saved.....We reported roughly 190,000 deer last year and right now as of today's date we're just over 60,000.......I know we still have January rut yet to come but it seems like we're lagging way behind last year.

Menu dropdown under Seasonal Statistics has other numbers, too:

Weather was way - way bettr last year and even this mini cold snap we just got is on a full moon

Lot of deer not dying - think it more weather related - crappiest we had in over a few years

Hunt the wind - leave it better than you found it - love your neighbor as you love your self
We need prayer for our country now more than ever

Negative ghostrider…………A trend downward is a potential indicator that there is less deer to be killed……To explain this lets use a hypothetical example and let’s say that over the next 10 years we trend upwards until we are killing a million deer per seasona………Now, you might look at that number of one million and say damn we’re killing all the deer…….but in actuality what that says is that in order for use to be able to kill a million year in and year out then there must be a base population of “X” number of deer to sustain that harvest rate…..Maybe like 3 million total.

Soooo…….when we trend downwards then its potentially telling us that are base population is shrinking. I say potentially because there are of course other factors that might possibly be influencing the situation like hunter’s choosing not to shoot as many or possibly terrible weather for any one given year….and the reason you go off of multi-years trends and not any given one year…… but for the most part the change in deer population is at the top of the list of reasons the numbers might fluctuate….I’m suspecting that we are gonna run a downward trend for a while due to baiting being legalized.

Purely anecdotal....

However, I cannot drive down the highway and not see a deer anymore....It hasn't always been this way, but I see double-digit numbers of deer on the stretch of 219 back and forth from Centreville to our Family Farm in Selma....In years past I would be surprised to see one. Now I have to dodge them in my truck

The app still has some issues. It wouldn't let me report a doe back in bow season without a little bit of a fight. I think it was because I was in an area with no service, but the report never submitted even when I got back on service, had to re-do completely. Wonder how many others aren't reported bc of that

More people may be doing their own processing and not recording the deer. Just going straight home and not worrying about it .

It would be easy to do, no question about it.

I think it is the other way around and the average hunter is getting lazier. I don't think a higher percentage of people suddenly got the motivation to put in the work to process their own deer. They may, however, be pulling the trigger less since they have to deal with GC.

This. ^^
The mature ones now were babies when baiting started. They were being passed on while they watched all their aunts and uncles get shot over bait.

Lol. If that was the case, with as much corn as has been put out in AL over the past 50 yrs, before it became legal, every deer in AL would Have already been trained to actively avoid all contact with corn.

I would think it has more to do with the weather and last year the lockdowns/work from home allowed people to get out more.

People have also been night hunting in the state for decades, but deer feel pretty safe at night. Baiting is far more common now that it's legal.
