I am trying to decide between a Moultrie that runs on 4 AA or buy one that runs on 6 volt and buy two rechargeable batteries. A friend recommended the 6-volt route but wanted to hear opinions as the models I am looking at are most likely owned by many due to their cost and popularity here in Dixie. Thanks in advance for any advice !

I’d stay away from anything Moultrie and go 12v battery with solar panel for battery. Key is to stay away from the feeder for at least 45-60 days at a time

Do you have any particular brands that you would recommend in a 12 v system ? Thanks for your response.

Got both. Like both. The 4AA model isn't a big slinger of corn. It spreads it out in a much smaller circle than the bigger 6v sealed lead acid types. I'm going to guess that the 4AA type with the smaller motor or easier to sieze up with debris than it's higher speed cousin but I use good clean corn in both and never have a problem from either. 4 AA batteries and a battery tester fit in a front pocket and that's nice as far as going with the 4AA type. I use both rechargeable and alkaline in my 4AA feeder if that matters to you.

I’d go with a boss buck or all seasons and put varmint cage around spinner.

Judge feeders have been awesome for me. 500 lb model is what we run.

I am having good luck (3 years so far) out of the Moultrie Pro Hunter models. (6 volt) I have one of the AA models and it doesn’t feed well and eats batteries. I will be changing it to one of the pro models soon.

I have 2 Boss Buck 350# feeders that have performed flawlessly for 8 years. Put new battery in both last year. They are 12 volt with solar panel

This. I had constant feeder issues until I made my own. Steel barrels and legs, good 12v controllers, oversized solar panels from Northern Tool, metal clad wiring from panel to controller, varmint cages. Been out there 2.5 years, 0 issues. The bigger panels allow me to put them in the woods where they hardly get sunlight.

We run Douglas feeders, https://www.douglasfeeders.com/. No complaints and local support is available.

I go with the 4 aa all in one moultries. $2 worth of batteries last all season. Only problem I've had is a couple of them have had led display go out after a couple of years

I have a Moultrie 6-volt, bought the rechargeable batterie. I put it out in September and it last the season without being recharged.

The Moultries I have most have the 4 AA batteries and they last all year on a set of batteries. The 6 volt feeders is the ones I struggle with to keep them going

Avoid Moutrie products. They just don’t last. I build my own with plastic barrels, leg kits using 1.5” EMT, and Game Country feeder motors. I have Game Country feeders that were bought in the early 1990’s.

Moultrie AA is what we run. I've replaced every 6volt motor with these. Like stated above the display on a few have went out after a yr or 2 on some.

I have 8 Moultries out. Two are the big barrel ones and are over 12 years old. They were the 6 volt but ones I converted to the 4 AA batteries. I fill them every 3 to 4 weeks . I have real good luck with them. Even half my other ones are 3 years old at least.

Mine are pretty much all in the back of my big fields along my house or just off my roads and I can fill them all in less than an hour in one trip so minimal intrusion. I pull any cards I have when I do it to. I do it mid day as well.
