This bothers me as well. I know a couple guys who have "named" their farms, aka the 40 or 80 acres they recently bought. Some of them go out an buy a tractor package and will then talk about all the tax write offs. I have yet to find a lot of money in my pocket based on buying a tractor regardless of how my accountant spins it.

Gotta agree here. It's nitpicky, but it bothers me. A random patch of woods or fields somewhere is not a "farm". At best it's a hunting camp if you've done some work to improve it, at worst it's your hunting spot or area. It's not a farm unless it's producing a crop of some sort IMO and pine trees don't count.


That's not what the county FSA office said when I took in cultivation to plant pines. They said it's still a farm, and I still have a farm number.
