And no way is this a “Win” for gun owners. IMO it’s going backwards.

Well this is some of what is in the bill - A new state database is under development to help officers flag people who are prohibited from possessing a handgun. Stringer, a former captain in the Mobile County sheriff’s department, said he believes that will be a better system to catch people who should not have handguns. The president of the Alabama Sheriffs’ Association has said he does not think the database will effectively replace the safety checks provided by the permits because of inevitable gaps in data collection.

Lawmakers made several changes to the bill to try to alleviate some of law enforcement’s concerns.

During a traffic stop or other investigation, an officer who has a reasonable suspicion that a person was about to engage in criminal conduct, could temporarily take a handgun and run it through databases to see if the gun was stolen. The officer could also check the person’s criminal history.

An officer could also temporarily take a weapon if a reasonable person would believe it is necessary for the safety of the officer or others, but it must be returned unless there is an arrest, or the person is posing a safety threat. The legislation would steer up to $5 million in state funds to sheriffs’ offices to compensate for the funding loss from permit fees.

That’s good then. I had heard on the radio that the amended bill did pass.

Yep Alabama is the 22nd constitutional carry state, coincidentally also the 22nd state. Does not go into effect until Jan 1 though.

Who is next?

If you look at this http://alisondb.legislature.state.a....ASPX?BILL=HB272&WIN_TYPE=BillResult
Scroll down and see the final adm that was sent to me maw is the one I posted first 218888-2 http://alisondb.legislature.state.al.us/ALISON/SearchableInstruments/2022RS/PrintFiles/218888-2.pdf
No trying to argue or anything and I’m sure we will know soon enough which one was actually signed.

I understand and agree.

It does not matter who is right, I just want to know what is what ASAP.

To be determined...

The article I read basically said at the last minute the house rejected the Senate amendment you are referencing.

So it went from the house originally to the Senate, Senate amended the house bill, back to the house they rejected one amendment about "temporarily seizing weapons" then I guess it had to be approved by both chambers again?

Well Shelby and Tubby both voted for it in the Senate. Just embarrasing.
