Russia could level all of the cities there in a day if they wanted to but they are holding back for a reason and that reason (whatever it really is) is why no other countries are intervening.

You might be 100% right, but what possible reason could they have for holding back? Clearly, no country in the world will directly enter this fight. (Including the US) The Russians know this. They will eventually concur Ukraine but at what cost?? They are losing tanks, helicopters, men every day they slow down. They have (in the last 4 days) resorted to directly targeting residential areas, hospitals and schools. If any other country was going to send in their military, they would have done it by now. I think them shelling the civilian areas is a sign they are getting desperate to break the will of the Ukrainians into surrendering. Too many things point to this. The Russian solders that have surrendered and been captured have reported the poor state of the Russian Army, poorly trained, poorly supplied, lack of food and repair supplies, ex. Hardly the sharp military machine Putin has tried to portray.

The Ali rope-a-dope. Apparently Pootin has plenty of choppers & tanks & boys to lose. I think he's a nut & just itching to lob a nuke on somebody.

Yâall I donât know how to put this any plainer, Russia doesnât want a war with us. Not because they like us but because we would destroy them. If yâall truly think Russia is trying to lure us to their border then I donât know what to say except I wholeheartedly disagree. Yes Russia is the 3rd strongest military in the world but the gap between us (1st) and them is so far itâs hardly comparable. People think because we couldnât kill an ideology in the Middle East that somehow are military is weaker than advertised.
US military budget - $802B China military budget - $120B Russia military budget - $42B
I honestly think you are closer to correct than not. As long as the U.S. thinks we are the underdog we will be OK.

Budget is somewhat irrelevant with the the big red button available. Military budgets arenât just for arms and troops, and the US spends most of the DOD budget on âotherâ things. Russia lures US, China jumps in. They have stated for many years that a world without Russia isnât a world worth preserving. Yes, they are outmatched and out funded, but they will play for a KO in round 1 and not have to fight 12. We may have 575 dozen arrows in the quiver, we wonât have the time to use them up. They have a pile of big red bullets that they would fire with little remorse, whereas, the US/ NATO does not have the same idealogical view nor an itchy trigger finger.

Not irrelevant at all, Look at the disproportion of defense budgets compared to what Russia is doing in Ukraine, if they maintain their Nuclear arsenal like they have their army, like Sumpter said above, it is probably is in the same shape. Another thing on numbers, virtually every developed country has Nuclear weapons, it is not just the US number. Putin may very well be crazy but he is not stupid. As Freestatehunter says above, Putin talks tough but he doesnt want any part of the US.

Largest Defense budget and we played in the sand for some 20yrs against much lesser foes. Wars arenât fought for quick victory. Wars are fought to keep the funding mechanisms turning. Thatâs what made America.

Largest Defense budget and we played in the sand for some 20yrs against much lesser foes. You can't really compare these anti insurgent policing actions (even if they are sometimes called a war) to an all out mobilization of our entire military turned loose on a country with the gloves fully off. Even in Vietnam they were trying to fight a limited war with multiple restrictions in place. Our entire military fully committed and fully unleashed is more than Russia wants to deal with. The size of our defense budget doesn't just buy ships and tanks and planes but the capacity to provide logistical support to them anywhere on the face of the earth. You better believe if the US invaded a country that was on our border our tanks and armored personnel carriers wouldn't be sitting beside the road out of gas 70 miles into their territory. Omar Bradley famously said: âAmateurs talk strategy. Professionals talk logistics.â No other country has the kind of logistical framework in place to project power around the world that the US does.

The gloves off concept is alien to most of the people alive today. People like Curtis Lamay and Paul Tibbets are heroic figure that were willing to do what had to be done to end the continuous meat grinder that WWII became. IKE wasnât willing to handle Korea and China the way necessary to win. The results of Vietnam were again due to an unwillingness to subjugate an enemy and their backers to the point of annihilation or capitulation. Much of the causes of these failings came from a public worn down by the previous war or softened by the fruits of peace. I fear that we wonât see the necessary fortitude until the people of the USofA are huddled in their homes too afraid to venture out to scavenge for food in the daylight.
