I’m looking to buy a 350 legend for my little boy. Is there much accuracy difference between a bolt gun and an AR? I’ve never owned an AR so I’m trying to learn as I know there are many variables. Also any recommendations on a manufacturer for an AR in 350L or where to find one? I wouldn’t mind building one but I know nothing about it so for now I’d rather just buy a complete gun.

I bought 16” barrel from Bear Creek Arsenal for my 350 legend build. I was very impressed with the its accuracy with the Winchester 180gr sp. A couple buddies bought the complete 16” uppers from BCA and they all shoot great. And no recoil.

My 16" upper for the 350 legend shoots MOA @ 100 yards. Compact and recoil is very acceptable. Comes down on what do you want to wean a youngster on: semi, bolt, or other. My dad weaned me on single shots to hammer home the importance of making the first shot count.

If I were weaning a youngster, probably would be on a bolt or single action, but to each their own. Less complex for sure and it requires a conscience effort to chamber another round and less likely to touch off an inadvertent 2nd one. Lots of options out there in a 350 legend for any of the above. Many budget bolt actions chambered in the 350 that would suffice for a youngster. My experience with the Winchester XPR has been favorable and it is offered in a 350 legend, but there are plenty others.

The recoil would be less in an AR due to the buffer system. You can buy a H3 buffer and reduce it even more. I would recommend a Rock River Arms upper. They’re very nice. If you’re going for easy build with quality then Palmetto State has full MOE lowers for $159. Personally I would replace the trigger springs with 3.5lb ($10) and the buffer with a H3 ($30) and he would have a phenomenal shooting weapon.

I have one with a complete Bear Creek upper and complete PSA lower. Mine shoots a little over MOA with everything I shot through it. No problems with jamming or extraction. Very little recoil. If you buy a complete upper and lower all you do is pin them together and you’re good to go. Will have to get complete lower through FFL if you go that route. Don’t have any suggestions on a bolt gun for 350. Don’t own and havent shot any, but have heard good things about Ruger American Ranch. Factory ammo is easy to find at most local places. I have no regrets with the one I have.
