Has anyone done the math on how many birds will be “saved” by dropping the limit to four? Is there anywhere to find the reported number of hunters that killed five the last few years? The reason I ask is my contacts in Montgomery are telling me there is a high probability of the limit being reduced down to 3 or even 2 within the next 2-4 years. Three bird limit being the most likely.

I heard it was just a suggestion. A gentleman’s agreement if you will.

Do y’all remember when 5 a year was based on the “honor” system? What changed? I felt more obligated to follow the law based on our honesty than laws rammed down our throats.

I remember seeing the data somebody put on here last year. It was a very small number.

I think poorcountrypreacher did it and it was something like only 6-8% of all turkey hunters in Alabama killed their 5th turkey each year. I’m sure I’m not correct but it was something like that.

You are probably right, but I thought it was 2-3 percent.

If your old enough you can remember when it was 6. It didn't stay that way for long and went to 5.

Game check said there were roughly 15,000 birds killed last year and the info Gobbler posted has us at an estimated 60K hunters…….Do the maff on that........If 5% of the hunters killed 5 birds that would be 15K birds......If 4% killed 5 birds that would probably give you your 10% killing 90%

Game check has 25,000 birds killed. It showed 60,000 turkey hunters. It showed 3.5% of the hunters killed a 5th bird. It showed 61% of the hunters killed one bird (yes that is 36,600 birds - more than they show was killed).

If the number of hunters killing a 5th bird is real, that is 2,100 hunters, therefore 2,100 birds saved across the state by going to 4 bird limit....8% saved.

One more bird per 25 square miles.
