I honestly don’t think he can help it it’s the way his brain is wired.

See T&M and Tractor Time threads. CNC obviously has a lot of time on his hands and pours thoughts into various wildlife and unconventional planting methods. I wish he would go back to the food plotting mindset because he has no clue about turkey hunting and conservation

Major fall off in kill numbers this week compared to last week.....I would imagine the weather has been a big factor this week.

Mon - 329
Tues - 192
Wed - 219
Thurs - 253

Total - 715

Compare that to last week's Mon-Thurs total of 1701 for a 58% reduction in kills this week......

You need a brain scan asap. You need to take these fake numbers and stick em. Maybe Chuck will congratulate you for this. Sounds like both of you would get along great.

Do you think the lines with smoother curves as compared to the ones that fall off drastically is a sign of hunter density?? They all appear to be headed to the same flat line by the final week I believe.....we shall see.

The state does an “avid turkey hunter survey” and then publishes the findings every year in a publication called “full fans and share spurs”. They break down the data by district. Gobbles heard, gobblers seen, jakes seen, hens seen etc…

“A total of 858 turkey hunters signed up to participate in the 2020 Avid Turkey Hunter Survey, and 454 reported data from hunts. “

Here is the link 2020 report

Good information....... thumbup

You know the first thing that jumped out at me about those charts…..and maybe I’m just not understanding this right……but it would appear to me on the chart for each district that shows “gobblers” and “gobbles heard”……it doesn’t look like there is really any tight correlation between the amount of gobbles heard and the number of gobblers present….For example in 2015 there were way more gobblers seen but way less gobbles heard…….But in watching the video posted about the turkey studies that are going on, isn’t that exactly how they are trying to determine turkey densities with all of their listening devices???......

There is no correlation between gobbles heard and gobblers seen. There are plenty of days I've heard over a hundred gobbles and not seen a turkey and days I've seen multiple gobblers and not heard a single gobble. Both things tell you there are gobblers around but are not necessarily related in my opinion

So I caught this little coon last night and the thing aint much bigger than a cat. The first thing I noticed when I walked up to it was that it had gotten caught in two traps…..I always put them out in groups of 2 or 3 in case they manage to empty one of them out without getting caught somehow….they usually trigger one of them…..

I figure this little female must have been starving to do what she did. After getting caught in one trap, she still went for the food in the second trap and got caught again. I think that’s likely severe hunger driving that behavior and that’s not good……because if she’s desperate enough for food to stick her hand down in a second trap then you know she was intently scouring the area looking for anything she could find to eat.

So it makes you wonder how much the coon carrying capacity and the availability of alternative food sources for nest raiders in some areas is impacting turkey nesting success. Also, is all the corn that is being fed only during the winter that gets cut off on Feb 11 having an impact by fattening up the females and causing them to create a bunch of excess starving young un’s to disperse come spring when the corn is no longer there???

I think it’s more likely she’s young n’ dumb. Coons can eat almost anything but rocks.

With just about any of these animals we’re talking about the number of offspring produced by each female is heavily tied to the amount of food available to them……We’re feeding chit tons of corn now from Oct-Feb and coons are likely eating as much of it as anything else.

It was just fighting the trap and got caught by the second trying to grasp and grab anything it could. I have had it happen on multiple occasions.
