Saw this posted online. So much for that road tax fixing the roads.

I don't see any way that flies. No way they can force you to maintain a public road or be denied your mail.

What is a homeowner supposed to do? Go get an asphalt truck and fill in the holes themselves, maybe get a few sacks of quick-crete? Plus the county is under obligation to keep the roads in good enough shape for school bus's and emergency vehicles.

Up at out cabin, the county does not maintain the road even though it is listed as a county road. Twice a year the State Game and Fish Commission runs a grader over it, but the rest of the time our property owner's association is responsible for it. So on the valley view side we collect $150 a year and on the canyon view side we collect $200 a year and we have a road chairman and he or she spends that money on road repairs.

Maybe the road listed in that letter falls under that same type of road system, where the county doesn't feel responsible. We have had discussions with the county about maintaining our road, but we are responsible for getting it up to a certain approved condition, before the county will even consider taking it over.

You can't fix the roads. You will be sued if you mess it up. If you don't mess it up the county will charge you to rip up what every repair that you did and put in their own.

Stupid.

Everyone needs to forward that letter to:
credit card company
auto loan company
home loan company
etc.
Please expect delays as we attempt to resolve our bill deliveries from the USPS.

The county commission should be notified to allow them to verify the authenticity of the letter. Same form letter was distributed for some roads in the district where I live now. The county commissioner received a ton of calls and FB hatred, but after an investigation, the letter was from one individual not the postal service.

It's a scam. The sheriff's office here in morgan county posted something on fb or ig about it.

Sounds like an effort to put pressure on the county to do their job. Rural carriers own and maintain their vehicles and If you’ve ever been it rural Cullman county you know a lot of the roads are like a motocross track. Been that way for years. I’ve never understood why people that live there tolerant it.

The Cullman county roads are horrible. Not sure where the money in this county is going but it sure isn’t road improvements

The road I live on here in Vinemont is terrible. They come throw a little asphalt in the holes a couple of times a year. It usually winds up underneath everyones cars and trucks because they pack it with a shovel!! I am all over North Alabama and our road is by far the worst I drive on.

I've heard that before - we have some really bad spots on our road and I had mentioned just fixing myself, and a neighbor told me that the county COULD do that.

You should go into the USPS office in Vestavia..... I took a bunch of mail in there one day, and there was a line out the door, and the drop slot outside was so full, you couldn't open the door to drop more mail in it. Stuff was piled up everywhere, and they lady goes, is all that stamped? Yes ma'am. She said set it up on the counter then. Some little kid goes, thats alot of mail!! Yes sir it is!!

Been a long time since my last visit there but used that location many times in the post.

Whatever happened to people 'going postal'?

I grew up 1/4 mile on the Cullman side of 157 (31 intersection). To say those roads are terrible is an understatement. Inlaws live back behind Apel steel and aside from the road going back to the owners house, there isn't a 15ft stretch of clean road to be found.
