for that long of a run I'd use Pex or HDPE pipe, just make sure the plumber has the right equipment to make the joints. At a minimum I would use a 1 1/2" pipe.

Helped my brother-in-law install 2500’ of 1” pex and he rented a ride type ditch witch. We trenched, installed the pex, covered the ditch, hooked up to the water main and to his house all in one day. We had 3 people doing most of the work and 2-3 other supervisors. Ditch witch was $450 for a day, had around $2300 in pex, connectors and shut off valves.

Or buy rolls- much easier.

Definitely buy the roll poly. Can do the whole run with no joints.
I’d use an ips/ pvc diameter 1.5” or 2”. Pex is copper tube size so your diameter is smaller.

1400 to set meter where I am then 2500 or 3000 for 1 inch pipe for 900 to 1000 ft. I think the 75000 bid was a tad bit high

With the price of pipe right now and a run that far I would put in a well. Not to mention if you have to deal with Owassa/Brownsville water my bill is $30 a month if I don’t use a drop of water. Won’t take long and the well will pay for itself.

No way should it cost $75K. The last quote I got on a well was north of $15K and that was around 15 years ago. I would go with getting some quotes on having 1 1/2 PVC pipe installed…..if the price is to high, I would go the route of renting a trencher and installing it myself. Also, I would definitely not use the roll poly pipe as from my experience, you will start having leaks after a few years. My 2 cents.

I know some stuff about this..it absolutely will be outrageously expensive if you want to..extend a main..but you aint wanting to do that..youare wanting to tap the main and run that water service line 1500ft..it will cost you the pipe and however you wanna dig the ditch..thats about as expensive as its gotta be..id run 1in pex an buy it by the roll..you could do it in a couple days..i dug my underground fiberoptic myself..dug it with a pick an shovel..980ft..didnt cost me nothin but a sore back. Same deal with the water..you oay them to set the meter..then you run whatever however. Id say screw a well..but then thats up to you..but if city water is an option id do that over a well 10-1

Don't just rent a trencher. RENT A RIDE ON TRENCHER!! You DON'T want to try and cut a ditch that long with a walk behind. The ride on cuts much better through rocky ground. Tell whoever you rent it from to MAKE SURE it has good teeth on the chain and not worn out ones. The ride on trencher also has a blade to help you back fill the trench.

$75k is absolutely rediculous. No way that's even close. I'll do it for 50k and provide materials. That sounds more of a deal don't it? laugh

Going through this right now with a cousin of mine. 2,500 ft of two inch pipe in 20ft lengths. Renting a trencher and running down the side of the road. He did have to get the county out to bore under the county road. I think he is at around $5k. This is in rural west alabama.

Just to clarify, I never did get a $75k quote. I was just researching the cost to install a water main and the google machine came back with anywhere from $50 to $150 per foot....it was obviously out of it's mind.

Doing it myself is probably going to be the way to go, but I talked with a master plumber in AL and he claims that the "call before you dig" won't mark my neighbors existing water main that runs on the same easement that I need to run. So I'm a bit concerned about screwing up their line.

And yes, seems like hooking to this water system is the way to go, just have to get the water main install figured out. It is $850 for them to tap into the system and install a meter for me, which I think is reasonable.

I'd just dig if the neighbors water is only thing your worried about...you'll know pretty quick if u hit it and then be ready to fix it right quick.. know where their cutoff is located beforehand

So define water main—- the main we put in a subdivision is 6” to 8” ductle iron. With Hydrants, Cutoffs, bedded in gravel, crossing for stub outs. That’s not what your wanting.

Over a 1500’ run friction loss Is your enemy. Put in 2”. The only difference is the cost of materials. The ditch is the same price.

Use the blue wet & fast glue if you do it yourself. I have run thousands of feet of PVC. The other stuff isn't even close. They will try to sell you all kinds but that blue stuff is forever.

Yeah, maybe that's what the google machine is thinking I mean, but it's definitely not!

I was told a new well was roughly $5-6k. The cost of having someone come do the main looks insane, like $75k plus. Am I seeing this correctly? Anyone have first hand experience?

I ran 1300 feet of PEX for about 1500 bucks last summer. Pasture land.

It was just from a well to a shed. 1” pipe. Rented a sit on trencher.
