I've never done any ancestry lookups, but I've never understood how they could be very accurate. Going way back I doubt most people had any type of birth certificate, especially poor country folks. I'm sure record keeping wasn't a thing in these backwoods settlements either and I bet they avoided government like we try to do today Just seems there would be too many missing links to establish any real lineage over a couple hundred years.


On the contrary, record keeping was far better than it is now. Even in the backwoods of places in the South.
