i have been told the women were with a bunch of squatters who have been camped in that area of calhoun county for quite a while. if this is so, i can't imagine why the sheriff''s department and forestry service have allowed the group to stay ...

They may have mixed in with the Rainbow people. They frequent that part of the national forest. Pretty sure they get run out of the forest from time to time but they are legally allowed to camp for 20 days before they have to move. Forestry service/LEO probably doesn’t like dealing with it so they get a pass as long as they stay out of the way. I’d bet that changes now.

Having said that, people that would consider doing something like this probably are not very adept at risk/benefit analysis.

One of the more detailed articles said the victims were being forced to give up phones, banking passwords and keys I believe. They were probably going to get them to Venmo their checking account or something. Crooks always catch up with technology at some point.
