The was a guy up Jackson County way who disarmed a GW about 10-15 years ago. Thought he'd murdered and buried several folks at his cabin. Not sure if they found anyone or not though. Does anyone remember the specifics of that?

I'm yer huckleberry. Mans name was Frank Potts happened up on Estill Fork I think it's probably been 25 years now. GW was Charles Mc Cray. Yes they did find one body, but are sure there are at least 2 more, but they will probably never be found. They found evidence two other missing people had been at his cabin. Body they found was a guy from Florida named Robert Jines . Potts is in prison in Florida for about 50 years , if he gets out he'll come to Alabama as he has already been convicted of murder, and serve the rest of his life.

Charles is lucky to be alive and will tell you so. He came up on Frank and Frank's son up in the woods doing some sort of illegal hunting. Frank got the drop on him and he and his son got away, for a while of course. The thought is if Frank had been alone, no witness, Charles would be at the bottom one of those sink holes on Garret Mountain.
The locals worked with law enforcement from Illinois to Florida, they all are convinced Frank Potts is a serial killer and has bodies hid from Fla to Ill. He's a bad man.

Wow, I had forgotten all about that. Hard to believe that was 25 years ago.

Go Estill forks, cross the creek like going to Hurricane, just after you cross the creek at the old tracking station turn left. Go all the way North till the road takes a sharp left to cross back over the creek, his place was up to the right on the North end of Garrett Mt. not too far from the state line. I think he had a 40 he bought from John T Miller, who he worked for some.

All his neighbors were shocked. He was a loner but was liked by everyone. He did odd jobs and would help old folks in the area, cut wood and such for free. He fit the profile of a serial killer when all was revealed. I knew who he was and had met him. Supposedly he was fairly intelligent. Evidence in his cabin revealed he enjoyed child porn and the company of young girls. That's what he's in the pen for in Florida. Once again a bad man.

Just Googled it, the incident with GW McCray happened Jan. 1992. Google Frank Potts murder / child molester and yer puter will light up like a pin ball machine.

I used to hunt on a tract at Estill Fork that joined the mngt. area. The guy sold 50 dollar permits to hunt his mountain and creek bottom. Any of yall remember or know that guys name?

Thanks for the info - I didn't realize it had been that long ago. Heard parts here and there but not the whole thing.

No one has heard the whole thing, only Frank Potts knows it all and he's not talking.

I know of the area you are talking about. We lease from miller but he owns half of Estill forks I think. Haha do you know how much they actually own 2dogs?

My family is from new market. Upper Hurricane Rd area. My grandpaw use to tell me a story about a man that lived up in the holler. Lived in a cabin way off the road. Had no power. He wanted to be alone. One day a helicopter came flying around to snoop and the off grid guy shot the chopper down. Then the police got him for that. I wonder if that's the same guy? Popaw would tell me this story back in the 90s so this happened in the 80s I believe. But I'm not sure. I remember popaw saying he didn't bother anyone. He just wanted to be alone. If this is the same guy, he didn't know he was on the run.

We didn't have information back then. Most of the people that moved up around my grandparents house were wanted by the law it seemed. Way back out in nowhere. They would move from out west and eventually the police would storm their rental house and we would find out that they were child molesters usually.
