Just looks like an older deer to me. Not ancient but plenty old enough.

He does have some characteristics on his antlers that give him the impression of an older deer. I’m not the greatest judge of deer’s age on the hoof, and I sure wouldn’t bet either way on this one.

You picked out some good characteristics, but add a year to velvet bucks. In 2 months, he will be in fighting shape and look a lot different.

You get in trouble trusting other folks. Lol.

Not having any history with the deer and given the location I’m saying 4. I’ve learned that with deer, just like people, there are norms and outliers. Most deer develop and mature following the standard we all go by. Outliers don’t. In any given age class there will be deer that just don’t fit the norm. Given the totality of info on him I say 4. He could be older but I doubt any younger.

Hopefully I will get to make a judgement call from the stand tomorrow evening. I always question myself on summer bodies. The wider deer with him is a year older. I’d be plenty happy with either, with my stick bow.

Here are a few other “older” deer from the same farm, for comparison.

Add to that:
chin flap (#1 reason I think he is at least 5)
sagging muscle tone
short looking front legs
short, blocky looking nose.

He’s either a well-developed 3 year-old or a 4 year-old.

I can see how you could make a case for either . However, I would be certain he isn’t 3.5

Mbrock is correct. I say 4. He is chunky. Give him 2 more years and he could be something worth shooting. I see some kickers starting to form.
I had a lease in Illinois for 7 years and some of those Kentucky deer are impressive! I drove through there a bunch and lots of good ones around Paducah.
Give him a pass, you won’t regret it. You never do!
