Here’s why:
(1) rear legs don’t appear proportionately short
(2) belly doesn’t appear to “sag” in front of the back legs
(3) neck doesn’t appear to be linear with bottom of chest
(4) back appears relatively straight

He does have some characteristics on his antlers that give him the impression of an older deer. I’m not the greatest judge of deer’s age on the hoof, and I sure wouldn’t bet either way on this one.
