You have extraordinary luck sir, both me and my dad have also registered for every adult deer hunt (with the the exception of two weekends in October for VT grouse hunting) and I have been drawn once (and it was not for one of the coveted areas). I think I remember some speculation that for the first few years, anyone who was picked in previous years got added to a different pool that actually gave them significantly higher draw odds. It seemed like there were a LOT of people who were drawn the first year that also got selected in years 2 and 3.

I definitely think you’re right about the first few years. When it first started I got drawn for Stimpson and got the exact same section there every year for about 3 years straight. I know that section like the back of my hand now.

Wma license. If you read the requirements you would have seen that.

Soa hunts is a money pit for the state plus cost of staying somewhere at nights during hunt.

SOA hunts don’t cost anything other than a WMA license? I apply and hunt out of state all over the country, I can say without hesitation that our SOA hunts are one of the absolute cheapest hunts to apply for (by orders of magnitude) and I haven’t run into another program that would provide such a high opportunity for harvest short of buying self guided access or paying trespass fees to landowners.

It’s a great opportunity IMO

This is why I have no faith in the "random" draw here.

Some folks with 28 points and multiple years are still waiting.

"But it's random that someone got drawn two years in a row, or two out of three years."

Um, OK. Perhaps? But it gives little to the pubilc for trust and faith when things like that happen.

I couldn’t apply last year due to the state being a bunch of dumbasses and lost all my preference points.

Gosh, they didn't have any record of it and couldn't do anything?

Shocked. Shocked, I say.

I moved back to AL and went to buy my WMA license and they said I had an active DL in Mississippi which I hadn’t lived in MS in 3 years prior to that point. They told me I had to call MS and deactivate my DL and I did and Ms said it was deactivated. DCNR here said it was still showing as active and therefore I couldn’t purchase a resident WMA permit. Oh and I couldn’t buy an out of state one because my current address was in AL. I spent HOURS on the phone with those idiots.

I haven't kept up with these. I have a 14yr old and 6yr old, neither have to buy a WMA license. I assume I just apply for youth hunts also?

Just my two cents... Registered every year. Have 65 points. Never been drawn.

It's a huge cluster just like the alligator tags. They have all this money for the SOA areas but they can't fix the roads on the regular wma's?

I registered myself and wife for 15 hunts on SOA's that are close to our camp. She's got a few preference points so maybe this will be the year for her. I got chosen last year so my chances are about zero.

If I win a hunt, I’m going to auction off the guest spots in the classifieds!

I wonder how many opt for the alternate and don’t get to hunt. That would stink to not hunt and have the points reset.

The youth hunt selection is horrible this year.
