Guy's I am considering buying a BAR Mark III in the near future. I have always been a bolt gun man but I really love the looks of this rifle. Anyone have the BAR with some reviews?

I can vouch for the BAR. Never had a minutes trouble with one. The best auto loader made today no doubt.

Well..if you could find a type 1..which was made from like 68-70..dont quote me on dates..i used to carry a retired browning master smith hunting and he said those are the finest models ever made…they will literally cycle anything you put diwn the pipe..ive got 2..both are 30-06 and both prefer the cheapest bullets wknchester makes..marketing gimick or not..the old silvertips would shoot the exact same hole out of our guns..almost the same with the PP. after having accuracy issues with one of mine..the barrel had to be re crowned an now its back to drivin tacks. My brother has a type 2 from the 80’s and his drives tacks also but he has busted the bolt twice shooting bullets that were not cheap..🤷🏻 Have no idea why..has something to do with the rail the bolt rides on being faulty..the first time it was fixed..it was a factory replacement..it broke again..the second time ..our friend..who we call the mad scentist..machined the piece out of a better quality metal and have had no further issues with shooting whatever we want….as for later models of the rifle..i dont know much..but the type 2 has that bolt issue for sure..seen it happen to several of them..i agree that they are the finest autoloader out there..and an overall mighty fine gun…you can pull the trigger on my daddys old BAR as fast as you want an it will cycle anything you feed it..might not shoot it all straight..i love mine..and it can not be beaten for what it is..and it has has shed alot of blood..i mean..a… lot..of..blood🤠🇺🇸

My first rifle was a BAR in 270 Win. It would put three shots in a group that you could cover with a dime at 100 yards shotting hornady Custom ammo.

For the life of me I don’t understand why anyone would want to deer hunt with a BAR unless they are dog hunting.
The triggers suck compared to a good bolt rifle.
You can’t load and unload them silently.
They are less accurate than a good bolt rifle.
They are heavy.
Those are just a few reasons that come to mind and I’m sure I can think of more with time.

All would shoot MOA and two under it with factory ammo. Now these were pre-76 , true Belgium guns and not these new fangled rifles.

Many moons ago I went to the shooting range down below Sardis. I had my bolt action something or other and was testing some hand loads. Some yahoo comes in with a BAR. He had on military camo, smoking cigs and looked like a hippy. I had sand bags, etc... He hung a target right beside mine at 100 yards. He got on the bench, propped up on his elbow and shot 3 shots about as quick as you could pull the trigger. I'm thinking... no way the guy even hit the paper. I looked at his target through my scope. Three shots that could have been covered by a quarter. I just kept my mouth shut. LOL

The 2 mk3 bars that I own have just under 3 pound trigger pull. This is checked with a Lyman digital trigger pull gauge. 1 has 2lbs 13oz and the other is 2lbs 15 oz. I check both guns 3x a piece to make sure.

Yeh..both my guns went screwy accuracy wise..they didnt start that way..daddy kilt deer 500+ yds with is..thats the one that had to be re crowned..both have been looked at by good smiths and they have estimated the rifles to have been fired nearly or over 1000 rounds…the other gun(my BAR)…its been fired well iver that..and probly the reason why you cant get 3 inside a paper plate at a 100..not the rifles fault..blame it kn bullets bein cheap an daddy seein if he could hit a skwirl on a stump at 600 yds🤠🇺🇸

I bought a mk3 BAR in 308 a few months ago. Wood stock, nickle receiver, pretty gun. I bought it to dog hunt with in FL. I have a good patterning shotgun and this Bar will be it's sidekick. I seldom have an opportunity at over 150 yards and the deer will usually be running, so I put a red dot on it. I had a Mk1 in 270 that I got at a good deal that I used last season, but I sold it because it was heavy. This 308 is a lot lighter and with the shims it comes with, fits me better. Trigger feels great, it shoots soft and the action feels like it rides on roller bearings. The red dot surely works against the ability to shoot it accurately, but I can hold 1.5" groups with the few loads I tried in it. It also totes easily with most of the receiver being bear since I cut down and used half of a 1 piece weaver style scope mount.
I thought about a Benelli rifle, since I shoot a Benelli SBE2 shotgun. Oddly enough, the Benelli had the safety in front of the trigger guard and the Brownings safety is behind it like the SBE. The Bar fits more like the Benelli shotgun that the Benelli rifle does.
I wish I could have gotten the wood stock without a nickle receiver. I never liked the camo gun thing and if I was going to go black plastic and rough finish over nice wood and polished blue, it shouldn't cost me the same. So I bought the fancy one and I'm sure it will get beat up some, but oh well. I thought about the short barrel DBM one they came out with, but I was worried about how it would carry with the magazine sticking out the bottom. Neat little rifle though.

I aint ever thought a BAR was heavy🤷🏻 I was thinking the same. According to Browning website it's only about 5 ozs. heavier than the X-bolt hunter. I honestly don't care about the weight. I do not walk far to a deer stand anyway. And I don't care about being loud to load and unload because all that is done before I get to a stand. Appearance of the MK III and the Browning name is what got me interested. I honestly won't hunt with it that much. I have some good beater guns for that. I am interested in a quality, beautiful piece of craftsmanship that will be an heirloom to my son and his son's when I am long gone. Hopefully 50 years from now my grandson will still be using it and say "This was Paw Paw's gun. I already have a Henry 30-30 to pass down but wanted one more. The rest of my beaters will probably be shot out by the time I pass. And honestly wouldn't a slightly heavier gun and the fact that some recoil is absorbed by the auto loading be a good thing? Isn't that what you want with an autoloader? Just makes sense to me. Now I would never want something like this in 7mag or 300mag so my plan was to go with the all around 308.
