Wish I'd a kept the BAR Stalker i had about 15 years ago, it had an issue with one of the base screw holes. I ended up dumping it.
Do not regret growing older, it's a privilege denied to many!

I’ve had 2-3 back when we dog hunted, but the triggers were horrible. New ones may be better though.

I’ve had 2-3 back when we dog hunted, but the triggers were horrible. New ones may be better though. Many an old man where I used to hunt had open sight BAR. Never seen a one with a shotgun. My oldest daughter has been shooting a 270 out of box stands since she started hunting, as well as have loaned her rifle to several other kids to prop up and shoot one with light recoil loads in a 270. They are and probably always will be my favorite rifle. When I go run dogs I grab my ‘06 with the ghost ring sight.

For the life of me I don’t understand why anyone would want to deer hunt with a BAR unless they are dog hunting.
The triggers suck compared to a good bolt rifle.
You can’t load and unload them silently.
They are less accurate than a good bolt rifle.
They are heavy.
Those are just a few reasons that come to mind and I’m sure I can think of more with time. I take exception to #3 . I've had several of them , in several different calibers. All would shoot MOA and two under it with factory ammo. Now these were pre-76 , true Belgium guns and not these new fangled rifles. Never no accuracy issues from any of mine, but I ain’t shooting paper with them except to sight them in. I guess in some kind of “match” someone might say that hole is too far away from the other hole or some craziness. We talking hunting guns. My dad has a 308…sweetest shooting rifle I have ever shot. My brother …a 270 Safari…..with a boss… propped up on the picnic table shooting at 75 yards or so I can’t say the paper plate he shoots looks any different than the one I shot with my Abolt. I ain’t never missed a deer because my trigger wasn’t as good as a Tikka or a Sako, or because my rifle didn’t come with a Sub MOA guarantee on the box. I’m not sure if Browning still prints their annual catalog, but their used to be information back in the day about the accuracy tested on all their rifles in the catalog that year. Their own data showed the BAR to be quite the accurate shooter even when compared to some of the Abolts.

I've got an interest in taking a 308 BAR, cutting the barrel down to about 20", take an inch off the stock and put a good red dot on it. I think it would be a fast handling neat gun. Especially if I dog hunted. My 270 BAR Safari Grade though rarely comes out of the safe tho. For everyday hunting just never been a favorite. It shoots good tho... I bought a mk 3 in 308 several months back just for that purpose. I plan to eventually have the barrel cut down a little and have it cerakoted. Wanted the wood, but not really a fan of the nickle. I shot it Theo other day to make sure it's on and even with the red dot I got less than 2" groups. I really think I'm gonna like it set up that way.
