I haven’t hunted a single time in probably 5 years. I swore it off. A friend of mine invited me to go to MO with him for a bow hunt. I can no longer shoot a vertical bow so I told him I’d have to buy a crossbow. He has one that he let me use. I hunted from the ground, with no ground blind, just my ASAT leafy suit and had 3 different shooters within 25 yards. I stuck a 140” 10 point. I put it right where I was aiming. Deer toted the bolt off, blood played out and the dog trailed him about a mile before we called him off. So I’m sick about the deer, but the week reminded me how much I enjoy hunting deer when there’s no hunting club drama. I can make a trip up north a couple 2-3 times a year, hunt better deer and not have to deal with drama llamas.
But I gotta get a crossbow. A hundred years ago I had an Excalibur and shot Slick Trick’s in it. My friend said fixed blade heads wouldn’t shoot in his Excalibur, the one I borrowed. I won’t be using expandables after that bolt not penetrating into that deer any better than it did.
I’m also not buying a Ravin crossbow with their price tags. Good gracious. They’re an insane price
Edit: I’m not blaming the crossbow or the broadhead for me not killing the deer. I just have more faith in cut on contact heads and an arrow with a CoC broadhead stuck in a deer keeps cutting as the deer runs. A fold open expandable would fold closed if the arrow pulls back some

I bought the Center Point 400 with Ravin limbs. It’s my 4th crossbow and by far the best I have owned. Set me back about 700.00. My old crossbows about 30 yards was max range. I wouldn’t hesitate at 65 yards with this one if conditions were right and it could probably do a 100 yards which I won’t try. 425FPS- scorching fast. I shoot slick tricks out of it and have had great results with them. Good luck in MO. Big bucks up there That bow seems to be out of production. I haven't found it online, anywhere other than ebay. I hate buying new stuff on ebay because you never know if the warranty will be honored.

Thanks for the replies. Any others got advice? I've been dabbling a bit in the world of crossbows too, but like you a Ravin is just out of the question price wise for me...The local sporting goods and archery shop (Shotgun Sports supply in Anniston) carries PSE and sold a friend of mine a PSE Fang, they have a package deal on the bow and he is into it for like 425 bucks tax and all....It shoots over 400 ft per second and is very, very accurate.... Crossbow package includes: HDV 425 1.5-5x32 Variable Zoom Illuminated Reticle Scope; 5-Bolt Quiver. Anti-dry Fire & Auto Safety Trigger. Three-22” Carbon Bolts With Bullet Points. Adjustable Buttstock; Foot Stirrup. Limb Dampers & String Silencers; Dual String Stops. Rail Lube, and Cocking Rope...He is very pleased with it and shoots great...I plan on taking a good hard look at them myself...Hope this helps...

I bought a centerpoint ampd/patriot for 250$ put a ravin scope on it and some blood sport arrows. It will shoot out to 75 yards like a rifle and stack arrows. No doubt It will shoot farther but I haven’t felt the need to shoot it any farther. At 30 yards as soon as you pull the trigger it hits the target

Put ravin scope and added a stock with a cheek riser. Swapped bolts from factory to black eagle executioners. Its is a tack driver.

Fur, if you can, get with someone who already has what you are looking at and go shoot it. There's plenty of guys here who have them, and I'd imagine that some of these guys would accommodate you on that. I understand about the Ravin price, but I look at it like buying a rifle. It's an investment. The Ravin's are great crossbows. I have an R-10 and absolutely love it. Wouldn't own anything else. If you change your mind on the Ravin, you are more than welcome to shoot mine.
Jesus... I hope you know Him personally like I do.

I can shoot my killer instinct out to 70 yards easily, but I keep my shots on deer within 50 to make sure they don't duck the arrow. Red what model is your Killer Instinct? I have the Lethal 405 and cannot keep it zeroed with the upgraded Vortex Scope I put on it. It will zero and within half dozen shots it's off again. Something is loose somewhere but haven't taken the time to find what is. I just put it up and broke out my compound.

Whats the deal with the ravin scopes on ya'lls crossbows? I looked thru my buddies ravin scope and its like a bdc reticle scope...is that why? The ravin scope has a speed ring to dial In to the speed of your set up and the illuminated BDC is spot on once you get it dialed in.
