Privet can easily be pushed over and uprooted with a smaller dozer

Two roads diverged in the woods and I took the one with deep ruts, hills and mud.It may be bumpy but WHAT A RIDE!

I'm starting to think of cutting and burning myself, then paying someone to come remove stumps. Sounds like that would save me a few grand. I did clear out about an acre myself this summer, except for the stumps. I am going to try pushing them out once the winter mud sets, I did take a few out in the very dry summer. I doubt it will be practical for the entire area though.

Rent you a bobcat and grapple bucket. Should be around $500 i guess. Dont cut it, push it up by the roots. You could get it all pushed up and burnt in a weekend if you stayed with it. I can easily push up a 4" diameter privet with my tractor. A bobcat will do it much easier.

Good point JW. I should be able to run one of those one my own. I'm not going to pretend to know how to run a forestry mulcher lol.

Nothing to it just push them over then get behind the rootball and push. Their roots are right on top of the ground. Get you a little fire going then pile the bushes on the fire. Theyll burn if you goe a good fire going. I pushed up a bunch of them a few months ago and had them all burnt before i left. No big deal. Youll be getting the stumps gone that way too. Should be able to plow and disk when youre done. Good luck

I beat a few out with a sledgehammer this summer, and I will try again that with wet soil. If that goes well, I may do it amish style lol.

I had a guy come out a few years ago with a 300hp mulcher and cut me a road and make a food plot with it and have been very happy and would highly reccomend it. He charged me $2,200 for 8 hours and he can do alot in an 8 hour day. If you wanna see one in action go on YouTube and search prime tec 450.

Here’s what I’ve done in the past. Rented a Dozier, pushed up stumps and privet, but you lose top soil and create hellashious erosion. Next I’ve pushed up and dug up privet and stumps with my backhoe, which was fun for a while but rough on your equipment in large scale jobs. Best thing We did was, spray, let it die, when you can’t see over it to hunt, and it rots for 2-3 years, get a bobcat with a bush hog on the front. It walked through that dead stuff and weeds like it wasn’t even there, and we went around the few stumps that were not rotted. Made 3 big lanes in 4 hours, because it was all dead and brittle.

If its just hedge mainly id do what i could with a tractor on the bigger stuff. After a soaking rain it easily pushes over. Any small hedge left behind with green leaves you can spray this time of year with gly.

As mentioned a good skid steer with a root grapple would do wonders for privet. But a mulching would look better quicker and have less dirt loss
