Any of yall have a ballpark number for having one clear out about 5 acres in Walker county? I may do it after deer season ends.

Can they handle mature privet? I've got some with 4" diameter bases.

Do you have a neighbor/near by property that may also need some work?
More acres=more likely a bigger machine comes out.

The most efficient way to mulch is with a bigger machine.
Skidsteers can bog down, the big ones short of a massive tree don’t know quit.

Yes on the privet, and I’m betting 175 an hour. Gonna have to spray the crap out of that privet and keep it mowed once done or it’ll be back in no time.
Most will have a minimum, but doing 5 acres should get close to it I’d imagine.

Just had a guy do some work for me. $1400/day. He brought in an excavator to dig up anything in the 6+ range so it got rid of the stumps too. Would highly recommend this guy. I'll shoot you a pm with his info.

I believe there is a hourly max per week though.

Tyler Raines north alabama land clearing. 256-777-3384.

He has big mulchers. 300hp+ machines and wider heads than the skid steer guys which means every pass hes cutting more.
He took down and mulched pines at my place that averaged about 18" trunk and 50
Ft tall. Averaged about a acre a day.

I own an excavator and mulch head. If it's just privet, I'd dig it up and burn. I just cleared a 4 acre lot of mostly privet and immature hardwoods and its a breeze with a 20k lb excavator.

If you have very much to do and are contracting it, use somebody with a big one. I let 2.5 acres get away from me and let a guy do it with a Bobcat. Took him 6 days and cost an arm and a leg. I’ve used folks with big ones n the past. He could have done it in a day or two. I’ll go back to them in the future. Envirogrind is the guy I’d recommend if in the Talladega county area.

6 days to clear 2.5 acres?
That’s ridiculous. I would have canned him if he didn’t finish on day one.

2.5 acres? Sounds like he was milking it

Guess it depends on what was on the 2.5 acres, but yeah, that sounds crazy. If it was something that the guy knew his machine couldn't handle well and was going to have to go really slow, he should admit that up front.

Equipment rental companies consider 8 hours, one day. So if you rent a piece of equipment for two days, but run it 20 hours a day both days (40 hours), you’re going to be paying for a week upon returning it. Same if it’s a week minimum but run the fool out of it that totals up to two weeks, they are going to charge you for overages.

No. He wasn't milking it. It was a combination of things. First, it was a relative starting a new business. Secondly, it was a misapplication of the equipment. The skid steer was just too small for this job. It was a thicket full of pines and sweetgums, with many of the trees in the over 10' tall, some in the 4-6" diameter range. He had to pull up to them, reach up to gnaw them down, then mulch what was on the ground. It was slow go. I cut him off after 3 weekends. Envirogrind had done work for us before. He has one of the 300HP machines. Having watched him before and watched this guy this time, I believe the larger machine could have done it in 2 working days.

I tried to call Envirogrind before learning of this guys new business. I couldn't contact him before, but have since. He will do the remainder of the work.

^^^^This. Unless it was like 10 yrs plus gotten away from you, he should've walked through it like he was cutting the yard. Heavy privet 10' sweetgums and pines and stuff like that is like cutting the grass for a good high flow machine and an operator that knows what he's doing.
