The real problem is that there is no longer any parity between conferences. PAC 12 is a joke. Big 10 has 2 decent teams that would be middle of the road 3-4 loss teams if they played a full SEC schedule. GA, Bama, TN, Ole Miss and MS State would all be undefeated or at worst 1 loss teams this year in either the P12 or B10. Heck even AU would prob be 10-2 in the B10, and they prob would’ve been playing TCU last night, if they were in the PAC 12. It’s just the truth of the matter. It’s been this way for the last 10 yrs. Playoff this year should be the top 3 SEC schools and Michigan (just because they are 13-0 this year). The top 3 or 4 SEC schools, due to the overall strength of the conference, cannibalize themselves each year, and this just doesn’t happen in the other p5 conferences. When they go to a 12 team playoff, the SEc should eliminate its conference championship game and that would essentially guarantee 4-5 SEC teams in the playoff, and an SEc natty champ 95% of the time
