Spoken aloud by my wife last night . . . a woman who was raised in the country in Alabama: "Deer meat really isn't that good. It needs A LOT of help to be halfway good to eat. It's always too tough, and you have to wrap it in bacon and cream cheese and hot peppers and Lord knows what else to get any flavor out of it. Heck, Zeigler's baloney is really better and more useful than deer meat." Wait a min!!!!!!!!!!!! You killed a deer or are you trying to convince your wife that raccoon road kill is deer? (haha)

I like it every once in a while but I could live off ground deer meat alone...

I honestly can't tell you the last time I had baloney. Yep. But, I had venison for lunch yesterday. Actually, I think the last time I had a baloney sandwich was in this country store, maybe 6-7 years ago. Mean lady behind the counter didn't want to make a sandwich but did. It was a pretty nice treat on a coolish winter day.

My latest found joy is a thick sliced baloney sandwich toasted in the air fryer.
I don't know if baloney is better than venison but it ain't worse.

(haha) No, no! I've killed no deer, for dang sure. But we do have deer occasionally prepared by various relatives (which is sometimes pretty good to eat in my opinion), and she's remembering our attempts to prepare deer 15+ years ago when I would occasionally bring a deer home. All this was brought on by me saying I might try to hunt Saturday afternoon.

You obviously haven’t done it right if you need all that to make it good. Take a tenderloin/backstrap add enough olive oil to coat and season with favorite seasoning grill to medium rare and you are good to go. We occasionally have a tough one but not often.
Would walk over a naked woman to get to a gobblin turkey!

I raised my kids on deer meat... we usually at 4-5 deer a year. We also processed our own deer. One of the biggest issues with deer meat is people over power it with Moores, cream cheese, and jalepeno. Oh yea and bacon. I never cook my deer meat like this and really never have. These are recipies folks who kill one deer a year and don't really live the "lifestyle" of eating lots of fresh water fish and game meat. Just treat deer like you would beef. I am not going to soak a fine ribeye in Moores for a couple hours.. don't do that with deer meat. Also, we used deer meat to make spagetti, tacos, meatloaf, fried cube steak, roasts with mushrooms and carrots, hamburger helper, etc etc. Just treat it like you would beef.
Oh and there is also nothing finer in life than a fried bologna sandwich... love those
